Help me identify this movie about a cotton famring woman

Well, I was listening to Leadbelly the other day and “Jump Down turn around (pick a bale of cotton)” brought back vague memories of being made to watch a movie in English class about a woman cotton farmer, and especially memories of graphic scenes of of people’s hands being pricked as they picked cotton.

Actually, it was an OK movie, I just have no idea what it was called, or, indeed, what the plot was.

Anyone got any ideas?

This is bugging me.

Was it the movie Places in the Heart?

It starred Sally Field as a widow trying to save her cotton farm. John Malkovich also played a memorable role as a blind man.
