Help me identify this show. Can the SDMB detectives help with the clues I remember? [Resolved]

Unfortunately I don’t know/remember much about it. I’ve only seen the first episode and that was awhile back (four or five years)…

First and foremost, it was a DRAMEDY.
It involved a couple, at the start… a man and woman, both with good jobs and the woman (and her family, father, etc) of considerable wealth. I think the father owned the company that both his daughter and her husband worked for…

So the show focuses on the husband. Something happens… I think either he or someone else plots to steal money from the place? It may be a bank that the couple works in and the father owns? Not sure…but I remember a huge amount of money was involved and was stolen or went missing or… some mishap…

…and the husband was fired, wife broke up with him…etc…was kicked out.

So…this now single guy, he gets with this OTHER guy… who, I think may have been involved in whatever got the first guy fired? The robbery or stealing or… I don’t know… all I know is…at the end of the first episode, both guys are in a car, clearly NOT GETTING ALONG WELL WITH EACH OTHER…but both having a plan to hopefully get their lives back on the right track. And then they pull away, in the car, ready to put the plan into motion. End scene. Credits.

Anyone know what this show is? I’ve forgotten. It’s a show I wanted to continue watching, though, I just … put it aside at the time, focusing on finishing other shows, and now I’ve forgotten what show this is.

OH YES… I remember one more CRUCIAL clue…

THE SHOW, for SURE, started with a letter between A-F. I know, because that’s the list I was going through, at the time.
A-F. …and I’m PRETTY sure it was, specifically, the letter D… because I know I found both shows DETOUR and DEADBEAT (both hilarious, amazing shows, by the way) around the same time… so I want to say this show also began with a D. …but it may have been a C or F.

I don’t think it was A or B.

ALSO, this would have been a FAIRLY RECENT show… like, on within the last ten years or so.

Anyways…is that enough clues for one of you amazing detectives to figure out what show this is?? Even if you don’t know, perhaps it’s possible to google it with enough of this info to find out?

I would be most grateful.

Have you looked on the ‘D’ list of TV shows on Wikipedia? It’s not as long as one would think.
I’m sure you know that, tho’

Any actors you may remember?

(You said show, so I’m assuming not a movie)

At the risk of an unanswerable question hat demonstrates my ignorance of entertainment options, where do you watch shows from? e.g. if you don’t have netflix there’s no reason for us to search netflix’s archives. I’m assuming it was streaming, not on conventional old-fashioned cable. But was it?

Was the show set in then-current times, e.g. ~2000. Or was it set in e.g. the 1980s? Do you think you were watching it when it was newish or was the show already several years old at that point?

etc.

There’s lots more you can probably tell us about your surrounding details that might help somebody find it

Not any mainstream or well known site, however, I’m still sure it’s an American show that was on regular TV and was probably on streamable sites. It seemed popular enough to be so.

Beck, yes, I’ve looked over lists like that a few times and can never find it.

It being on “regular TV” is a huge clue. So something produced for one of the major networks by one of the major studios. And now you’ve mentioned that it’s an American show, not an e.g. British import.

We’re making progress. My own knowledge of post 1970s TV is substantially zero, but I know a few things about reducing search spaces.

Yes, fairly certain it’s an American show…but don’t take it as 100 percent fact, I’m only mostly sure, not entirely sure. :stuck_out_tongue:
I’m also only mostly sure the title began with a letter between A and F…but that’s not a for sure thing either.

Basically, it’s a guy trying to get his life back…his wife, specifically, who left him, and CLEAR HIS NAME. And he’s doing it with the help of one of the guys who was to blame for the SNAFU happening.

As for what the SNAFU was, I’m less sure of the details, but it involved a lot of money at his job being lost. He worked at a bank or loan office or…jewelry store…some place that deals with high valuables or money. And when everything went upwards, he was left holding the reins and blamed for it (the husband).

But it had light comedy elements to it. Maybe it wasn’t an out and out comedy or dramety, but it wasn’t totally serious.

One extremely telltale sign a person’s found the correct show is that, at the end of the first episode, both guys will be in the husbands CAR, sitting in the front seat, talking. The show ends with them sitting there and/or starting the car and driving off…ready to try to clear the husbands name and make things right

And these guys: are they white? Are they black? Is one of them bald and bespectacled? Like, if you’ve got anything else that you recall, it might help.

It’s not Ozark is it?

Have you looked at this list?

Not Ozark. And I have looked through many lists for this show, which is why I came here when I was at my final try of seeing if I can find this show.
I’m not sure it was a show still ON by 2020, also…it could have been a show that just ran for one or two seasons, like, in 2016 or something.

The two guys are white, as is the wife the first guy loses due to the crime he’s blamed for.

I was thinking maybe Burn Notice, but the main character was a spy and I don’t think he was married. So never mind…

Not that, but I do enjoy Burn Notice as well.

In fact, it’s very much in the same vein as Burn Notice. Same type of humor…not an outright comedy, but not an outright drama.

Zipper suggested crime series, but I wouldn’t call it A CRIME series, per se… it’s more of a comedy where a guy is trying to get his life back after something goes wrong at his work and he’s blamed/framed for it. So he works with one of the guys who KNOWS he’s innocent in getting his life back.
Not really a crime series more of a “setting things right” series.

It wasn’t Terriers, was it?

Just checked/watched…nope, that wasn’t it.

I don’t think it is this series, as the details don’t fully match up, e.g., the main character being responsible for the crimes, but it seems similar to what you are describing: Living in Your Car

I am just posting this because it is the closest thing I have found so far. Everything else I have found seems to fit less than this, like the crime being murder or the show not being in English.

That is the closest so far, but I don’t think it’s it. It’s impossible to tell due to not finding it anywhere to watch, including sites I use, but from the read up of the first episode, it can’t be it…the ending didn’t finish with him having a lawyer or getting a new car or trying to get one. It ended with the guy teaming up with one of the guys who knew he was innocent of the crime and working with him to try to get his wife/life back.

I don’t think I’ll ever find this show again. Clearly it was not a well known one, may have been one only on for one season. I can’t even pinpoint when it was made, only know that it was sometime past, say, 2005. I want to say it was a show from 2010-2024, but I’m certain, it could have been from 2007 or 2008 or something like that.

I wish I knew more details, but the only ones I’m totally sure about is that the guy lost his job due to …being framed, I think, for the place losing money. I don’t know if it was due to a robbery or fraud/embezzelment, but it was something…

Lost his job and everyone thinks he was to blame and responsible, when he wasn’t. His wife leaves him…and I THINK, but am not sure, that he then teams up with one of the guys really responsible for the money loss…
…but it may have even been someone with whom the wife had been cheating on, not sure. He teams up with SOMEONE, though, someone who is the reason for LOSING his wife and job…
…and the job plays a part too. As I said, it plays a part in that, it loses money somehow and everyone blames the main character.

And the ending of the first episode… or maybe the beginning of the SECOND episode…as I said, it’s seared into my mind: It’s both guys, in a car, on the road to set things right.

You’d think that would be enough for someone to know “Hey… it sounds like THIS show”, surely someone on Earth has to know, you’d think MANY someones would…
Where can I find these people who would most likely know? That’s the question.

Is there any chance it wasn’t an episode of a show, but rather a one off “made for TV” movie? Or similarly, that the producers hoped the pilot episode you saw would get picked up for production but never was?

Or …

Once in awhile I have one of these kinds of memories and eventually it comes out that I’ve glued aspects of two or three things together and the thing I’m sure I recall as true, albeit vaguely, simply never existed as I remember it. Any chance that’s what’s going on here?

I know this is asking a lot, but: both having a plan to get their lives back on the right track?

From what you recall, I think I get what the main guy is all about: the company lost money, and he got blamed, but it wasn’t his fault, and he’s out to clear his name — sure. But: what’s the deal with this other guy?

You said, of the main guy: “he’s doing it with the help of one of the guys who was to blame for the SNAFU happening.” Uh, okay; why is that other guy helping? You say this other guy “KNOWS he’s innocent” — which, okay, makes perfect sense; but he’s not helping out by rightfully taking the blame, so: what?

Is it that he pulled off a heist with yet other guys, and figured he’d split the loot with them in equal shares, and then they vanished, so he’ll help a clear-my-name guy find them because finding them equals profit and revenge? Or is it that he’s actually doing great apart from his guilt, and all he needs to be happy is to clear his pal’s name without getting on the hook himself? Or is it that he got fired, too?

Or what?

One guy is out to get his life back on track; I get that. You said the other guy is also out to get his life back on track; please do go on…

Great but short lived series. The secondary character friend of Donal Logue’s character seems like it was intended for Kevin Corrigan who has teamed with Logue before.
