DISCLAIMER: Please forgive my utter inability to describe music, and musical functions, in a way that musicians understand, and try to get by on my layman’s explanation.
First, go here: http://www.bgfl.org/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks2/music/piano/organ.htm and set it to Organ.
Second, mentally transport yourself to the 50’s. You’re at a dinner party at Don Draper’s house. The air is filled with cigarette smoke. Cocktails are flowing. Someone puts a cool record on the turntable, and this is what you hear:
E-F-G (where each is a whole note, and they sort-of run into each other).
-brief rest-
B-B-B-B-B (where each is a very brief, individual note- maybe eighth notes?)
-very brief rest-
B-B-B-
-very brief rest-
B-flat-b
-very brief rest-
A-A-A-A-A
-very brief rest-
A-A-A
Is this ringing a bell for anyone?
