Help me identify this tune (celtic/irish)

First of all I´m not sure if this is against copyright policies in this boards, so, if it is moderators please close this thread.

OK, sometime ago I heard a nice celtic/irsh tune on the radio, I managed to tape a bit of it, and I put a short exerpt HERE (it´s a WAV file, 202Kb) I´d like to know what tune is it, who is the author, performing group, etc; I really like it but I have no clue about it.

Thanks in advance.

I’m hoping that we both find out. That is lovely!

Indeed Zoe, I´ve looked everywhere to find this song; but to no effect, I´ve looked for: celtic, irish, tin whistle, etc.
I think that the SDMB is my last chance… that or moving to Ireland to do some field research… I´ll keep that as Plan B.

Going from the semi-electronic sound in the background, it’s unlikely to be traditional Celtic, or at least has been heavily modified. Have you tried comparing it with tracks by, say, the Chieftains?

Were there vocals? What sort of radio station was it? (Easy listening as opposed to generic ‘alternative’?)

Since this is about music, I’ll move it to Cafe Society.

Off to Cafe Society.

I don’t know for sure, but my first impression is that it might be something from Clannad. I’ll see if I can get a chance to poke around today.

RR

I don’t recognise it. It sounds kind of generic synth-Irish.

Stoyel, I heard it on a radio that broadcasts mostly classical music, and sometimes “world music”; perhaps I could call to the station, but it was several months ago that I heard the tune so I dont think they´ll remember. I dont know the Chieftains, to be honest appart from Enya I havent listened to any irish group that could be responsible for this little gem. There were no vocals at all, just a tin whistle, at least a guitar and probably some kind of synthetizer. Music stores over here dont have that much stock of celtic/irish music, and I don`t really hold much hopes of finding this particular music piece on a local store.
River Runner; I´ve heard about Clannad, and being that a rather well known group I guess I may found a CD somewhere here…

it may be Capercaillie (sp?)

Hmmm… not sure, Capercaillie, beign a Scotish group has more highland sound to it, this definetly sounds irish.

I’m quite familiar with Capercaillie, and I’m certain it’s not them.

It sounds familiar. I might have it somewhere in my collection.

But, I’m at work right now.

I´d be grateful if you could look it up, Bosda Di’Chi of Tricor.

I’ll try to remember. But I got no speakers on my home 'puter, & I’m always totally exhausted at the end of the day.

An e-mail reminder for the PM would help…

PM? like in the night or is that another of those indecipherable SDMB acronyms? :dubious:

At night.

I’ve reviewed a few of my CDs, & have yet to identify it.

But it sounds very like Atlan.

I’d swear in court it was the same flutist.

Is Atlan a band or a single artist?
I Googled for it but couldn`t find anything of value.

Atlan is a band

I think you guys mean Altan.

I think Ruadh is right; I googled Altan and indeed is a celtic band… now I have to look for this particular tune.
