This isn’t really meant to be a debate but I see that religious threads tend to wind up here. If you want to debate the merits of a given sin go make another thread about it. I am even interested in controversial sins such as homosexuality and the mixed fabrics things.
Anyway, the reason for this thread is that I want to find out the percentage of sin that I currently live in according to the Christian Bible. I am sure that there are others that have wondered as well. I will start with the big 10. Please add them in list form and number them. After a few pages I will try getting rid of the duplicates and post through an updated list. Then we can all give eachother scores like on a test.

Well, if you want to go “all the way,” so to speak, there are 613 commandments in the Torah. Of course, some don’t apply to everyone, and many don’t apply at all in the present era.
There are, of course, the seven deadly sins:[ul][li] Pride[/li][li]Envy[/li][li] Gluttony[/li][li] Lust[/li][li] Anger[/li][li] Greed[/li][li] Sloth[/ul][/li]Of course, the familiar list is based not directly on Scripture, but rather on medieval theologians’ distillation of Scripture.
I started testing myself off with a spreadsheet I divied up. I haven’t finished all 613 of the rules but as it stands now I am 66.8% full of sin. I will find some vindication when I get through all the 10 commandments because I only break a few of those.
Sorry Zev, you snuck in that post while I was fidgeting with the coding for the previous one. Thanks for supplying the link as well. I should probably preview before sending.
I want more options. THe breakdown of sin is just to quick there. I would take a little from 2, 3, and 5, possibly even 7 since I don’t really have anything to do with courts if I can help it. Without taking 7 into consideration I would be 50% sinful. I never realized that Jewish people have so many rules that are proscribed to them. It is quite fascinating, I will have to get one of my Jewish friends to talk about it when they are in a particularly religious mood.
Doubtful. What religion are you? If you’re a Muslim, you’re not in violation. If you’re a Christian, there are halachic authorities that hold that you’re not in violation either. If you’re an athiest, you’re in the clear too (it’s a prohibition against idolatry, not a positive commandment to worship God).

Maybe. Depends what you did with whom. I probably don’t want to know anyway. (Note: plain pre-marital sex does not fall into this category for a non-Jew)
**
Highly doubtful. This prohibition consists of one specific utterance (which I will not repeat here) and which I doubt you’ve uttered.

Sorry, but I’m afraid you’re in the clear here too. I’m assuming you pay taxes which help support the courts and the police and military who keep order.
In other words, sorry to disappoint you dorkus, but you’re basically a good guy.
