You have my blessing, and my amusement at the idea that anyone else might want to use that name. But maybe I should make you promise not to advertise in the DC area. grin
My “if I haven’t done anything with the domain in a year” comment meant if I hadn’t made any advances in doing freelance work at all: at this point I’m pretty certain that I won’t change names.
Of course, I agree not to advertise in the DC area (on purpose) heh.
Actually, so far I’ve only considered working for those I know, and thought I might branch out a little in a year or two. I doubt a college kid from Ohio is much competition for you “big-city DC folk.” - also, I hate driving in the DC area, so trips up there to meet with customers is a no-no. You have to allow me Philadelphia, though, as I am up there somewhat often…
I see my services as things that can all be done online, so (hopefully) my clients’ physical location won’t matter. That said, I can’t imagine aggressively marketing myself outside of DC/Northern Virginia: any work I get outside this area would probably come through word-of-mouth, especially at the start.
That seems definitely true. The only reason I have a shot at anything in Philly is because of family connections there. My aunt, cousins, and their kids all live around the city somewhere, each with a job at a company that is ripe with contacts (specifically, my cousin works for a place that has been looking into website design. She’s already mentioned it to a boss, since it’s a small company, and they are going to wait until I get the last project up and running just to make things easier for me. I told them I didn’t mind, but any delay won’t hurt me any.)
The sad thing is, I told Mrs. Small the name. She hated it. Well, she said…“it’s okay, I guess” which means pretty much that I shouldn’t use it. Since she is going to be involved a good bit (we’d like to do it full-time for both of us while she’s finishing school - about 4 more years - then she can work at a college while I work from home, since she’ll have a Ph.D. and all). Looks like I still need one. Too bad, the two I liked are unusable. Well, one is unusable, the other is disliked by my better half…heh…
