Help me name my new kitten

I would just observe him for a week or so; something’s bound to occur to you. What are his personality, energy level, quirks like? Is he developing any habits, routines, or fascinations with particular things yet?

Having said that, though, when I saw those ears splayed outwards, I thought, “Yoda”!

Very cute cat.

Manchas - see ‘Jaguar’ post nearby.

All cats are known to respond to S*** Head, so why do you ask?

I might add that i bought my wife a tee shirt today with the emblem ‘Behind every gifted woman there is a reasonably talented cat’.

Says a lot- like I’m a loser.

How about: “NO KITTY, DON’T DO THAT! BAD KITTY! GET DOWN FROM THERE!” This has the added benefit of being able to be changed to “CAT” instead of “KITTY” when he gets older.

Another suggestion: Scrabbles. I have a friend with a cat named scrabbles.

So, have you named him yet? Don’t keep us in suspense!

Man, I’ve been away on business for three months and last week Mrs. C goes and adopts two kittens. TWO. Knowing I ain’t too fond of the little beasts, she let me name them: Optimus Prime (the yellow stripey one) and Megatron (the grey stripey one).

Well, it turns out these are also the names of two characters from a cartoon series from the '80s called The Transformers. Who knew?

Bengal cat. Striped. But no cliches.

“El Tigre”? Or maybe “Detroit”?

Cite!
I want another dose of cutesy!

Are their nick names Opti-Pri and Mega-poo?

We’ve been tossing around the name Dave. I’m not sure how long “Dave’s not here” would stay funny though. Cats can live like 20 years.

The way he’s been screaming like a demon I’ve also been thinking about Etrigan. And let’s face it, “meow meow meow” would be at least as good as some of Etrigan’s rhymes over the years :).

I used to have lengthy conversations with my Bengal – I’d talk, he’d meow, I’d talk, he’d meow – it was great fun. They can be very vocal.

I think I’m going to keep Chaos in mind for MY next boy kitty.

If he’s a real whippersnapper, I’d vote for Cosmo. I have a Cosmo and she completely dominates the household, though she’s about half the size of the next smallest cat.

Cosmo. It’s a really fun name to say, too. Cosmo. Coooosmoooooo!

How vocal? The breeder made me a little bit mad on this issue. Out of a litter of 5 there was only one that was noticeably vocal - and he was very vocal. Vocal to the point where it was not cute at all, he would just sit there and constantly scream. Everytime I went to visit my cat and this one was awake I would cut my visit short because I couldn’t stand the constant screaming. The breeder knew I didn’t like this and I was concerned about my cat ending up like this.

Then I called on the day we were supposed to go pick him up and she informed me that we couldn’t because they had all been sick . I felt kind of burned that she didn’t call to tell me about this. My cat had lost half his body weight (he’s still underweight and still has diarrhea and doesn’t seem to be eating or drinking enough, but the vet thinks he is fine) and apparently almost died and she didn’t even tell me! I paid for this cat ten weeks ago when he was born so he is and was my cat.

So I went to pick him up and few days ago and this time all the cats were as vocal as that one annoying one. She made it a short visit this time and reassured me that he was just being loud because he knew he was leaving. Well, the next day, after he had kept my girlfriend and I awake all night with his constant crying I called her and she said “Oh yea, he’s been like that every since he got sick, I think he picked it up from that other kitten.”

Well thanks for telling me lady!

And now the problem I’m facing is: How do you get a kitten to stop crying when it won’t stop crying? I know you’re supposed to pet it and treat it good and give it positive reinforcement when it’s not crying and then ignore it when it is, but what if it always is? This guy is non stop!

High cost be damned, the only reason we haven’t given him the boot is because he’s so villainously cute.

I honestly don’t know, exactly; Cloud (my guy) was essentially a rescue from a pet store, so I never talked to his breeder. He was the most psycho kitten I’ve ever had BUT he did calm down a lot once he grew up. I don’t remember him being a screamer, though, just incredibly active as a baby.

Have you tried a squirt bottle? Cloud liked water, but only on his own terms. He hated being squirted. This might not work on all Bengals since they do tend to like water. I once made the mistake of running about a half-inch of water in the tub for him to play in. I spent most of the rest of the day drying the entire bathroom.

I’ve never met a kitten yet, of any breed or lack thereof, who wasn’t a collosal PITA. But their cuteness goes a long way to make up for it, or it always has for me!

They are usually a PITA by just being rambuncious and overlly playful but this guy the loudest animal I’ve ever heard, he absolutely does not have a mute button.

I don’t think I can really put into words how much he screams because I failed when trying with my brother. I was talking to him on the phone for about 5-10 minutes telling how much this cat screamed and he was laughing at me saying “Yea, I know. What did you expect? All kittens are like that. You took him away from his mother…etc.” I kept telling him he didn’t understand but he continued reassuring me that he did. Meanwhile the kitten was asleep.

A few minutes later the kitten woke up and pretty soon my brother was saying “Oh my god, I had no idea.”

I mean, I really really can’t put into words how loud this cat is and how constant it is. He is not meowing. He is screaming. I don’t think he even stops to breathe. It’s like he went to Australia and learned some circular breathing technique so he can scream and breathe at the same time.

Oh, and he purrs often while screaming which leads me to believe that he does it for no other reason than that other cat teaching him it’s fun.

Have you tried snuggling the lil’ lover?
That worked for my Siamese/mutt kitten.
He was the runt of the litter and fit in the palm of my hand at 8 weeks.
Siamese have are loud mouths too, but I don’t know by comparison. He just wanted some affection.
Probably not a long term fix, but might help.
Plus I’m pretty sure kitten-snuggling is good for the planet. :stuck_out_tongue:

All the websites and messageboards I’ve read have been saying to ignore him and not give him what he wants when he cries like that because it will teach him that he can get whatever he wants by crying.

I’m pretty good with animals and I’ve had lots of them but I’m completely at a loss this time. He’s driving me and my girlfriend crazy and I don’t know what to do.

I wish I could help – I’ve been around a few loud Siamese, and it does get incredibly annoying – but in my Cloud’s case, he was talkative but not a screamer. I verified this with my mom, just in case my memory was off (which it often is). Actually, he had the funniest high wussy little voice, the last thing you’d expect a sixteen-pound cat to have.

I have to wonder if some well-timed squirts might at least shut him up briefly, though. It’s kinder than what I’d really want to do, which is drop-kick him across the room. (Note: I am a total animal wuss. I would NEVER do that. I would, however, fantasize about it!)

I’ll use that as a last resort if he doesn’t shut up in the next day or two. I really don’t want him to associate water with bad things though. That could make it a real pain to give him a bath later.

Here’s the best I can do - still on the road, so haven’t met these two yet:
Optimus Prime and Megatron. They sure seem to sleep a lot, based on the pictures I’ve seen so far. BTW, Mrs. C also re-adopted our old cat who’d been adopted by our neighbor after her cats were mauled by another neighbor’s dogs. So in one week we’ve gone from zero to three cats. I’m not really looking forward to getting home from this trip.

He’s a Bengal? I just read “Life of Pi” so I’d go with Richard Parker.

Good luck with 'im.
