Help me name my scooter!

Mad Max?

Montrose?

Mod?
Although Maude works well if you’ll accept a gender change…

You could try finding one of theseold bumper-stickers

Thanks again, everybody! My scooter has spoken to me, and he and I both agree that we like the name “Mojo” (it helps that one of the meanings of “mojo” is magic, and I love anything to do with magic!)

It’s short, it’s catchy, it’s easy to say, and if I ever forget where I park it, I can wander around complaining that I’ve “lost my Mojo.” Win!

Thanks to everybody who made suggestions, and especially to **palindromemordnilap **for the winner!

Now I just have to persuade the spouse to stop asking me when I’m going to get my scooter a sidekick named “Skid Roper.”

Okay, now that you have a name, let’s get to the important stuff.

  1. What’s the top speed, and what do you consider a good cruising speed?

  2. How many miles per gallon do you get?

  3. What’s the size of the reserve tank? / How far can you go on reserve?

  4. Are you happy with the turn radius?

  5. Is it heavy?

  6. Is there any under-seat storage for helmets and other stuff?

  7. Is there good wind deflection?

I know I’m late but ------- Blue Meanie?

Once it lets you know its inner self, be sure to get some paint reflecting that identity. Once Dark Ride was settled and happy I got this paint

and its been very good juju for us both.

Pie.

Well, I haven’t had that much chance to ride it yet so I don’t have great data, but I’ll do my best:

  1. I’ve heard that you can get it up to about 100MPH–so far I’ve only had it to about 50, since I’ve only ridden it in town.

  2. Reviews say 42-47. I don’t have any real-world data yet.

  3. .8 gallon or so. It’s got a fuel gauge, too.

  4. So far, yes. I did a U-turn on it the other night and it didn’t seem any better or worse than any other motorcycle I’ve ridden. It is long, though.

  5. Not that heavy for what it is. It’s actually one of the lighter maxi-scooters, since it has an aluminum frame. It’s about 500 lbs. with gas.

  6. There’s underseat storage that will fit one full face helmet and maybe a little bit more. You won’t be able to get a helmet and a jacket under there at the same time. Compared to the Suzuki Burgman, the storage space is small. There are also two little cubbies in the front for things like wallet/cell phone/etc., but they don’t lock. Yamaha offers a top box if you need more storage.

  7. That seems to depend on your height. I read a lot of reviews before I bought it, and one complaint is that the stock windscreen can be very noisy/buffet-y if you’re the wrong height. I’m 5’10" and I’ve noticed it quite a bit. I think I’m going to replace it with the shorter screen Yamaha offers, which should take care of the problem. If you’re taller, it should be fine. If you’re several inches shorter it should be fine. BUT…

…this is not a scooter for a shorter rider, unless you don’t mind not being able to put both feet on the ground. It’s tall for a scooter, and the seat is rather wide. At my height I can get my feet about halfway down. My spouse, 6’ with long legs, can flatfoot it. But if you’re shorter than about 5’7" you’ll either need to be comfortable with that, slide off the seat at stoplights, or get platform riding boots.

Hope this answers your questions!

Putt-Putt Maru

(Incidentally…)

Great, so now when you’re going uphill, you got your Mojo rising…rising …rising…

But beware the Lizard King…
