Going to karaoke tomorrow for my birthday, and I need some song suggestions. I always try to do something new, but I’m more of a shouter than a singer, so my repertoire is limited. In the past I’ve done “Twist and Shout”, “oh! Darling” and “Money” by The Beatles, “Kiss” by Prince and “The One I Love” by R.E.M., if that tells you anything about my (lack of) range. Suggestions?
All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight is a fun one for a shouter.
Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds has a nice mid range and you can shout all the la la las at the end.
I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers is a good shouter
Janis Joplin’s Mercedes Benz is almost more “spoken” than sung. And it has the added benefit of becoming a sing-a-long at the end. It’s the only song I’ve ever been drunk enough to sing in public…
Summer of 69
I don’t have a great voice either. I like BTO, so I’ll usually sing something like “Takin’ Care of Business” or “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet.” Or “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin or “Jump” by Van Halen. “Old Time Rock and Roll,” “Life In the Fast Lane,” and anything by ZZ Top are also good for songs where enthusiasm is more important than tone of voice.

That’s What I Like About You - The Romantics
Tush - ZZ Top
Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters
Thanks, guys. I’ll definitely have to try at least one of these. “Don’t You Forget About Me” is probably the closest to my voice.
My Ding-a-ling is very easy and the crowd will often join in.
Ballroom Blitz by Sweet.
House of the Rising Sun or Folsom Prison Blues…always crowd favs.
Punk Rock Girl by The Dead Milkmen or Where Eagles Dare by the Misfits.
Have fun and Happy Birthday!
I love rock and roll (original version of course!) and Mony Mony. Or pretty much any Billy Idol song!
Ooh, "Punk Rock Girl"s a good choice! Thanks!
Let us know what you pick and how it went.
Indeed I shall.
Do a spoof song and no one will care how you sound.
I’m partial to a particular Bob Rivers number.
Ended up doing 2 duets - “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues and “U Got The Look” by Prince. I had a few more songs that I put in, but the Karaoke jockey was a total dick - he told me once I couldn’t request another song because I already had 3 songs queued up (I only had 1), and then he skipped a bunch of us in favor of two hoochie chicks, who he let sing 3 songs in a row. So I left without doing any solo songs. Still, it was mostly fun.
