Karaoke (your go to song)

I live in a small community and we have Karaoke the 3rd Saturday of every month.

I am tired of my usual songs and would like to hear if you have a go- to song.

I have zero range, but I love to sing. My usuals are Family Tradition by Hank Jr., Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash, and Keep Your Hands to Yourself by the Georgia Sattelites.

What songs do you sing that bring the house down?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Generally, at the beginning of the night I avoid slow songs or long songs. You’re trying to get people energized, after all

I say it depends on how into karaoke you and your friends are. We’re really into karaoke (noraebang), so we take a lot of pop hits and especially light PUNK!

Punk is great in karaoke, just because it’s frenetically energetic and fun to sing. Particularly the kind of punk that’s been popular since the 90s (not Sex Pistols kind of punk), but easy, relatively soft punk like Green Day and My Chemical Romance.

Disney songs are good, too, if you grew up watching them like me and my friends

Here’s a list of songs I do regularly:

[ul]
[li]Muse - Time is Running Out[/li][li]Green Day - Holiday[/li][li]Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams[/li][li]Green Day - Jesus of Suburbia[/li][li]Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends[/li][li]Green Day - Time of Your Life[/li][li]My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade[/li][li]Boy George/Culture Club - Karma Chameleon[/li][li]Fastball - The Way[/li][li]Counting Crows - Accidentally in Love[/li][li]Jimmy Eat World - In the Middle[/li][li]White Stripes - Seven Nation Army[/li][li]All American Rejects - Move Along[/li][li]Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply[/li][li]Coldplay - Yellow[/li][li]Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved[/li][li]The Wallflowers - One Headlight[/li][li]Cranberries - Zombie[/li][li]Quietdrive - Time After Time[/li][li]Oasis - Wonderwall[/li][li]Cold Play - Fix You[/li][li]Green Day - Give Me Novacaine[/li][li]Disney - A Whole New World[/li][li]Disney - Circle of Life[/li][li]Disney - Kiss the Girl[/li][li]Rolling Stones - Paint it Black[/li][/ul]

Don’t forget to throw some Ace of Base into there as well

Hope this helps. I’ll try to think of some other songs I always try to do. Honestly, I know I sound dorky for admitting this, but I go to karaoke so often that I know almost every song that anyone else plays.

Oh, I guess I should point out that I normally do this stuff in a room with friends. If this is a wide open bar karaoke format, these are the songs from my list I would suggest, also taking into account you’re from a small town:

Fastball - The Way
The Wallflowers - One Headlight
Counting Crows - Accidentally in Love
Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply
Quietdrive - Time After Time
Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved
Plain White T’s - Hey There Delilah

I grew up in small town Arkansas, and if I remember correctly, we mostly sang country songs there. How good are you at warbling?

Rascall Flats - I’m Moving On
Lonestar - Amazed
Lonestar - I’m Already There
Garth Brooks - Shameless
Ronnie Milsap - Smokey Mountain Rain
Ronnie Milsap - Wouldn’t Have Missed It for the World
Billy Joel - Piano Man

Jeez I wish I could edit my posts. I’d subscribe, but I’m at work right now and don’t feel like pulling out my credit card.

Here’s some more small town hits:

Creed - Arms Wide Open
Nickelback - Someday
Nickelback - Photograph
Nickelback - Hero
Kid Rock - Only God Knows Why
Kid Rock/Sheryl Crow - Picture
Daniel Powder - Bad Day
Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
The Eagles - Hotel California
The Eagles - There’s a Hole in the World Tonight
The Eagles - Desperado
Hinder - Lips of an Angel

I live in a small gated community, not really a small town.
There are a lot of old farts here though…I am 48(Ouch )and I am a young guy here.

I appreciate your help but when you suggested Savage Garden I cringed.(Long Story)

I am a huge fan of GreenDay but more like the"Welcome to Paradise" kind of thing. I really like “I Wanna be Sedated” by the Ramones but I doubt they have that in our book. Thanks again but we usually have Both kinds of music here. Country AND Western.

Peace and Bacon Grease

Haha, sorry, I made an assumption after you listed Hank Jr. and Cash.

How about Blondie, U2, Beatles, Blink 182?

Or Journey? Journey is a favorite everywhere. Also, don’t forget about Tom Petty!

Journey requires HIGH notes and I can’t go there. Thanks for all your suggestions.

" If I get stoned and sing all night long it’s a Family Tradition"

Though we used to be karaoke fanatics, my friends and I have lately become slackers. We’re still regular enough, at least, to score some free drinks at the bar. Our lineup has included such gems as:

“Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood
“She’s So High” by Tal Bachman
“Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” by Cher
“Single” by Natasha Bedingfield
“Keep Your Hands to Yourself” by Georgia Satellites
“Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” by Big N Rich
“Lady Marmalade” - Christina, Pink, Mya, Lil Kim version, naturally
“Living on a Prayer” - Bon Jovi
“I’ll Cover You” from RENT
“Redneck Woman” by Gretchen Wilson
“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey
“Paradise by the Dashboard Light” by Meatloaf
“Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake
“Over You” by Daughty
“A Whole New World” from Aladdin
“I’ve had the Time of my Life” from Dirty Dancing
“What Hurts the Most” by Rascal Flatts

and many, many more that I can’t remember… those are pretty much our highlights and “fall back” songs if we can’t get buzzed enough to try something new. We’re pretty much all over the radar.

Welcome to the dope, great suggestions.

Except for this one, this is right out. I’ve never ever heard this kareoked where one half of the duet didn’t suck really bad at it, it’s usually quite painful.

Crazy by Patsy Cline. Always a tear jerker.

Frankenstien by Edgar Winter.

Oasis songs tend to be good karaoke songs, since most people can sing along. Songs like “Summer of 69” and “Brown-eyed Girl” also usually go over well.

Last time I went I sang Sheryl Crow’s “All I Wanna Do” - big hit.

I have to say go for something classic and well loved by everyone so that everybody wants to sing along and doesn’t care how badly you sing.

My go to song is Like A Virgin followed closely by Material Girl. (What can I say, Madonna is my karaoke spirit animal.) I would suggest that if you need songs in a lower range that everyone loves try The Devil Went Down to Georgia or Friends in Low Places.

I would also suggest Billy Joel and Elton John (ooh, Rocket Man could be an excellent song for you!) but they tend to have higher ranges and that might not be what you are looking for.

I always start with the Banana Boat song: DAAAAAAAAAAY-O!

Ya gotta dance too though.

I’d rather put a red hot poker in my ear than listen to karaoke, but if you’re a baritone, do you have a tenor you could do Righteous Brothers stuff with? I adore them and a lot of their songs are really fun to sing along to.
