I’m an idiot when it comes to fashion, and I have a wedding & a rehearsal dinner to go to this spring. I actually found a dress I like - this one - and I need help finding shoes!
The picture makes it look more casual than it really is, and keep in mind I’m definitely more curvy than the woman in the pic. In fact, I think the dress looks kind of plain on her but it looks great on me! Neither of the events I have to go to are overly formal, so it’ll work fine. I plan on using a flouncy scarf around my waist instead of the plain belt that comes with it.
So what kind of shoes to wear? I’m guessing my Converses won’t work. What’s in style nowadays? Assume that I will break my neck with anything higher than a small-to-medium heel.
If I were you, I’d do a search on your favorite websites for colorblock sandals or flats. I think they look really fresh with solid colors.
These have a wedge rather than a heel if that’s more comfortable.
You don’t have to choose a pair that has the same color in it as the dress. A shoe that has equally intense tones to the tone of the dress but in other colors would look very pretty.
The dress is the blue one in the link (“Tidal” is the name of the color). The scarf has a white panel and a panel that fades from teal to peach to rose.
It looks like there might be some gold in the scarf so maybe bronze or gold sandals? White (or cream depending on the color of the scarf) would also look nice.
Boy, I’d loooove to get away with ballet flats, and may end up buying some to go with this dress in the future. But I think for the wedding/dinner, I want to be at least slightly dressy. Wouldn’t flats make the whole look more casual?
I know! I’ll mix and match… flats, but I’ll wear my pearls. If I wear enough pearls, I could probably get away with sneakers, right? That’s how fashion works, is it not?
I’m old fashioned, and would insist that for evening events fabric shoes are a must. Something like this. Warning, I can’t see the scarf pic, so take the color choice wiht a grain of salt.
If I may give my humble opinion, I really don’t like the look of nude shoes with a brightly colored dress, especially with additional brightly colored accessories. Pink or a metallic would look best.
I agree with gallowsfodder and love the hot pink shoes TruCelt posted. In fact there are some seriously hot shoes in here. Eve posted some darling flats too in a great silvery color (and since I have a bad knee and can’t wear heels I might have to buy me some.)
