In September will be my 11th wedding anniversary, and I really want to surprise my husband.
Here is what I’ve sort of thought of so far…
Get an overnight babysitter (tell Rob it’s just a dinner babysitter)
Get Rob to wear something nice to “go out to dinner”
Limo picks us up at our house and drives us into Washington DC to eat dinner [I have no idea what restaurants there are in DC, I need help with this part!]
Limo takes us to the Ritz-Carlton hotel and drops us off. I’m looking at this package: http://www.ritzcarlton.com/hotels/washington_dc/packages/room/anniversary_pkg.html which is $399 (yeowch!) but I do have a few months to save up for it.
Breakfast in bed (comes with the package above)
I don’t know about getting back home… I have NO idea what Limo rates are so I am not sure I could afford to do the limo on both days…
So…
What are some good restaurants? They must have vegetarian food so seafood places, steakhouses, etc are out.
That sounds like a very nice plan! The Ritz should be able to give info. on limos. You can also do a Google for “washington, dc limo service.” I found a site that quotes online:
Well, seeing as I hate riding in convertables and I’m not really a beach person, that wouldn’t work for us. Plus how do you get a babysitter for the whole weekend?
Jeff: It doesn’t need to be a vegetarian restaurant… actually probably better if it isn’t. I was thinking more in terms of a nice Italian place or something…
I remember a great Italian restaurant in old town Alexandria called Ecco’s. (My spelling may be off.) They had a great pasta dish - two kinds of thin pasta, and sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms and a light sauce…to die for.
You should maybe check out the Torpedo Factory, too. It’s a renovated factory where lots of artists have their studios - real art, not the macrame toilet paper holder type. (No offense to macrame-ers.)
And a drink at Bullfeather’s? And desert at the Ben and Jerry’s just off of King street, right?
Old town Alexandria is great in the fall to just walk around in. Lots of cute colonial houses, and aside from tripping over the politicians, it’s pretty safe.
I remember one block where I counted eight types of cuisine (as in eight different countries.)
Good luck, and happy hunting!
I’d suggest a stop at the Dream Dresser Botique or the Pleasure Chest on Wisconsin Ave in Georgetown to pick up some “supplies” for the later private time!
Opal, I recommend Marrakesh on New York Avenue in NE DC (near the convention center). I know they have a vegetarian menu and its a very good place for an anniversay dinner. Although last time I was there the belly dancer was more belly than dancer…
If you’re willing to do Italian in Tyson’s Corner I suggest Da Domenico. The website is amateur but the food is outstanding. The service is really good, too. It’s a nice restaurant, but the waiters are very friendly and don’t try to make people uncomfortable.
Plus, the owner comes out and sings an aria when the mood hits him.
I’ll second this suggestion.
Fridays and Saturdays are the nights that the belly-dancers appear. Although, they do tend to be white women and not exotic-looking middle easterners.
If you DO go to Marrakesh, make sure to bring enough CASH with you, as they do not accept credit cards.
