Help me remember a book title

I read this book in college: between 1985-1989. My roommate read it for a lit class, I borrowed it and enjoyed it.

The novel tells the story of Noah’s ark and life aboard the ark for Noah and his family. Unicorns happen to be on the ark as well all the other animals. It is a dark story that ends with

someone cutting off the unicorn’s horn and using in a rape.

I cannot remember what the book is called and my google-fu has failed me.

Does the story also include narration by a cat who’s giving birth to a litter of kittens and watching the goings-on on the boat? If so, I hated that book.

Of course I can’t remember the title either. Heh.

Maybe that was it, but I don’t remember any of the details in the synopsis.

Sorry it took me so long to post that initial reply, but I was busy researching the unicorn horn plot point to be sure I had the right book.

wiki has a decent synopsis of the book, although they don’t mention the scene you descriped in the OP.
