Help me remember a quote!

The guist of the quote is something like this:

this man, instead of being ashamed of his ignorance, learned to sharpen it and use it as a weapon.

You got the idea that he learned to use what he knew, to find out what he didn’t.
I thought it was a neat quote, but didn’t take the time to write it down.

Any guesses? Knowledge?

A browse through my (old and tattered) Bartlett gives a quote by Disraeli, about a man who “was distinguished for ignorance; for he had only one idea, and that was wrong.”

That’s not what you were looking for, but it’s a nice quote. Sorry.
