The thread on Sit Down, Shut Up made me remember a thread I’d intended to post, as watching the show made me vaguely remember the show I’m trying to get the title of. It was a really vulgar animated series set at a very ill-funded school, but that’s about where the similarity with SD,SU ended - the one I’m thinking of was actually funny.
It aired here in Canada on Teletoon, I think, 5 years ago. I think they might have had a hand in the production, but they may not. It probably aired at around the same time in the UK.
I vaguely remember a handful of characters…
The headmaster was Indian or Middle Eastern, greedy, and not terribly bright, with criminal connections.
His right hand man (whose position in the school itself, I can’t remember - probably administrative), was an even more corrupt typical upper class bastard.
I don’t remember the other teachers very well, though there were a couple more who had fairly major roles. (I’m pretty sure one was a transparently closeted lesbian, another was Australian, and the music teacher only appeared in one episode, in which he left the school.)
The main student characters were a group of three girls, only 2 of which I remember very well - a slutty blonde, and a violent black girl. I think their friend was asian, but don’t quote me on that.
I remember a handful of jokes/episodes well enough to mention:
The school was holding a talent show, and the girls were discussing what they were going to be doing. The black girl asks the slutty blonde whether she’s going to ‘play the pink trombone’, again, then cracks up. The blonde looks hurt…and pulls out a trombone, which is pink, and wonders why everyone always jokes about it.
They later repeat the gag with the upper class bastard. ‘Mr <Whatever his name was> do you want to see me play the pink trombone?’ ‘Oh, I won’t be tricked with that one again!’
I’m pretty sure this was the same episode where the music teacher quit, to pursue a record deal. Originally he was going to stay on, but then the record company offered him ‘supermodels with cocaine in their fannies’, which won him over. The other teachers resent the hell out of him, and are…less than mournful when he’s killed in a helicopter crash at the end of the episode.
There was another episode, where the school was sued because a kid fell into a hole in the parking lot - they argued it was the kid’s fault, because the hole was clearly marked. At the trial, they brought out a picture of her butt, and asked her if she could tell the difference between her arse and a hole in the ground. She couldn’t. (IIRC, the school lost, because the girl couldn’t read, which was why she didn’t know the hole was there, which was their fault.)
