It would have been on the air probably early to mid 70s, but I don’t remember which network. (I watched a lot of TV game shows when I was out of school for summer vacation.) This one, I think, was hosted by Tom Kennedy. And about the only thing I remember about it was at the end of each show, that day’s champion picked one of five cars on stage (Chevys, IIRC) and if the car started, they won it.
Split Second.
When asked by her audience one night which game shows she liked, Carol Burnett named Split Second and Jeopardy! as her favorites. They both thanked her on-air in the next few days.
I believe this is the reboot hosted by Monty Hall (I’m pretty sure it was taped in Toronto). It’s still shown in Canada on the Game channel.
It’s okay, but nowhere near as fast-paced as Tom Kennedy’s show.
Damn you guys are fast! Thanks!
I loved this show! I remember watching one episode in the summer of 1972, right after I started learning Russian. The score was tied going into the final round, and one of the contestants was a graduate student majoring in Russian at USC.
She rang in immediately when the board flashed
Government paper
Party paper
Press service
and nailed it. It was her fifth show, and she won a car. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tenser final round than that one!
(She had to name all of those for the Soviet Union. The answers are, respectively, Izvestiya, Pravda, and TASS.)
Episodes are available on YouTube.
