Okay, here’s the deal. This has been driving me crazy for a little while trying to recall the title and location of this story.
I have a fairly clear memory of several parts of this story, but I cannot recall where I read it. It was either a short story or perhaps a novella, so must have been in an SF magazine or short story collection.
The story was about a blob of lab goo that becomes self-aware after being put into a small rubber statue. After some adventures, it eventually is placed in the cranium of a full-grown person who had either no brain or had lost it – I dunno, car accident and it fell out or something.
I read it in the 80s, I think, but it could have been written as early as the 60s – I grew up partly on my dad’s collection of old SF books and magazines.
Help?
