Help me think of this word

(Not sure if this is the right forum)

I was trying to remember a word the other day and it’s still driving me nuts… it seems like there’s a specific adjective for religions where they do a lot of loud praising and singing and emoting in their services. Something like “dynamic,” but that’s not it.

I may just be fooling myself and there is no such word, but I think I’ve heard my husband use it. I asked him and he doesn’t know what I’m talking about. Help!

are you thinking of “Charismatic”?

Holy rolling?

Spiritual fervor?

Zealot?

Oh, oh! I think it was charismatic. Thanks!

:smack:

And sometimes they refer to themselves as full-faith Christians.

I guess the rest of us are half or semi-faith, eh?

Or perhaps fundamentalist?

Nope – “fundamentalist” is a theological category, not a behavioral (worship) category.

Hmmmmm, and what would that make Anglicans? Hemi-demi-semi-faith?

Hemi-demi-semi-quavers please

Or hemi-semi-demi-Quakers?

Hey – I’m a Quaker!

Quaker Oats?

Southern Baptist?

There was a discussion about religions in “Stranger in a Strange land” that gave labels to two extremes: Dionysian (loud, outgoing, extroverted) and Apollonian (quiet, introverted). If by “something like dynamic” you meant the word sound in addition to meaning, Dionysian sounds like a good fit.
