Why?: Because he has vision, isn’t just a pretty face, he reflects/thinks out the issues, thinks more in line with my thinking, is for using the budget surplus for the right activities, because he is a Democrat [it would take a very, very unusual Republican who could win my vote] and he is not big business like Dubya Bush. I find his political campaign rhetoric [for working families] much more in tune with the vast majority of Americans. And the man thinks green ie environment.
What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate: health care policy, education, civic rights and civil society, women, environment, ability to cajole/politic/mold economic policy
Where do you get your information?: Economist, New York Times, Emerge, online news [national and local], tv. I want to see three debates as organizaed by the way Presidential debates have been managed since the 80s.
I will not vote for George W Bush because of his educational policy in Texas, for his past actions on the death penalty, for his inability to articulate national policy [he aint no wonk], his weak leadership capacity, the possibility that someone would bend his ear into promoting a national sales tax [total disaster for working folks and the economy itself], for his semi-illegal private business dealings in oil before he decided to cash in on his so-called family dynasty.

Why? If Maryland had any chance of being won by Dubya, I’d definitely vote for Gore. But, Gore’s got MD locked up, so I can afford to “waste my vote.” I just don’t know if I want to or not.

I can’t boil it down to a simple explanation. Perhaps if I was more set on a candidate I could, but…ask me again after a debate or two.

Women’s rights, education, abortion(I am pro-life, but I believe that abortion should be legal and safe), generally the issues that matter in my life-selfish yes, but when voting I believe we make these choices based on what we believe is important.

Why? Human rights. Social responsibility. I’m pro-life, and Gore’s a difficult candidate to reconcile that with, but the pros far outweight this con. But the fact is, my actions alone in the private sector can do more for this cause than any president has in 26 years. SC judge nominations aside (they’ve been known to shift unpredictably), Gore is the way to go. I’m scared shitless (can I say that here?) of Bush’s inability to think for himself, and shudder at the thought of him talking one on one with a foreign national.
