Ok, here’s the deal: Hypergirl and I are in the same U.S. history class and need to do an extra credit assignment. It’s basically asking people survey questions…
age/sex
Will you vote?
Why?
Who will you vote for?
Why?
What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate?
Where do you get your information?
And be amusing about it if at all possible. If that’s not too much to ask. I have my parents if I want dull boring cookie cutter responses. Dopers are a higher level.
age/sex 19/m Will you vote? Yes Why? First time to get to vote
**Who will you vote for? ** Honestly don’t know
**Why? ** I haven’t found out what they are for or against.
**What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate? ** Availablity of Social Security 60 years from now is the main thing I’m concerned about.
**Where do you get your information? ** Mostly online.
Age: do you really gotta know? awright 52
Gender: female
Will I vote?: you betcha
Why?: because I can - it would be a wasted right if I don’t.
Who will I vote for?: Since this is a ‘national’ survey, I assume that you are asking about President. I will vote for Al Gore
Why?: Because he has vision, isn’t just a pretty face, he reflects/thinks out the issues, thinks more in line with my thinking, is for using the budget surplus for the right activities, because he is a Democrat [it would take a very, very unusual Republican who could win my vote] and he is not big business like Dubya Bush. I find his political campaign rhetoric [for working families] much more in tune with the vast majority of Americans. And the man thinks green ie environment.
What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate: health care policy, education, civic rights and civil society, women, environment, ability to cajole/politic/mold economic policy
Where do you get your information?: Economist, New York Times, Emerge, online news [national and local], tv. I want to see three debates as organizaed by the way Presidential debates have been managed since the 80s.
I will not vote for George W Bush because of his educational policy in Texas, for his past actions on the death penalty, for his inability to articulate national policy [he aint no wonk], his weak leadership capacity, the possibility that someone would bend his ear into promoting a national sales tax [total disaster for working folks and the economy itself], for his semi-illegal private business dealings in oil before he decided to cash in on his so-called family dynasty.
18/male
yes
because I can
probably Bush (first choice was McCain)
I see him as the lesser of two evils
I look for a candiate that is at least somewhat pro-life and not likely to raise taxes.
online, on TV, in magazines
age/sex: 27/male Will you vote?: Yes Why?: Civic obligation Who will you vote for? Either Gore or Nader, but if McReynolds is on the ballot in Maryland, possibly him. Why? If Maryland had any chance of being won by Dubya, I’d definitely vote for Gore. But, Gore’s got MD locked up, so I can afford to “waste my vote.” I just don’t know if I want to or not.
**What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate?**How well his opinions on issues mesh with my own. Where do you get your information? The evening news, newspapers (Washington Post mostly), plus the Internet.
age/sex 32/F
**Will you vote?**Yes
**Why?**Responsibility as a citizen.
**Who will you vote for?**Bush
**Why?**Lesser of 2 evils.
**What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate?**Whichever will yield the least government interference. But am a one-issue voter on gun control - would not vote for any anti-self defense candidate.
**Where do you get your information?**Read CNN.com several times a day, watch the Newshour with Jim Leherer (sp) on PBS, CNN headline news, Wall Street Journal.

27/Female Will you vote?
Yes, definately Why?
It’s my duty as a citizen of the country. Plus, I have no right to complain about the government if I don’t do my part to elect them. Who will you vote for?
I’m not sure yet, though I lean more towards Gore Why?
I can’t boil it down to a simple explanation. Perhaps if I was more set on a candidate I could, but…ask me again after a debate or two. What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate? Women’s rights, education, abortion(I am pro-life, but I believe that abortion should be legal and safe), generally the issues that matter in my life-selfish yes, but when voting I believe we make these choices based on what we believe is important. Where do you get your information?
Newspapers(NY Times, Atlanta Journal-Constitution) Television(mostly CNN), Radio(only to a point though-I only listen in the car)
age/sex - 29/M
Will you vote? No
Why? There is no real choice, I hope for Gore -shudder-.
Who will you vote for?
Why? Money, money, money. cash. Who can make the most? It is sick to me. Democracy is close to my heart, but elections are a farce. Hmmmm… if I had to vote for the bucket of stale bud light or a greasy pork sandwich served in an ashtray… Bud Light!
What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate?
human rights, human rights, human rights… can you say ‘death penalty’? Woman’s right to her body a.k.a. PRO CHOICE.
Where do you get your information? mostly from the outside world, stimulus - other than that its just the coices in my head.
age/sex 25/m
Will you vote? Yes
Why? Because I’m allowed to
Who will you vote for? Gore
Why? Human rights. Social responsibility. I’m pro-life, and Gore’s a difficult candidate to reconcile that with, but the pros far outweight this con. But the fact is, my actions alone in the private sector can do more for this cause than any president has in 26 years. SC judge nominations aside (they’ve been known to shift unpredictably), Gore is the way to go. I’m scared shitless (can I say that here?) of Bush’s inability to think for himself, and shudder at the thought of him talking one on one with a foreign national.
What issues do you consider when choosing a candidate? Again, human rights and social responsibility. By HR, I of course mean things like the death penalty, pressure on other countries, and the state of our own citizens.
Where do you get your information? Mostly online.
Some days I don’t know why we bother to have the forum descriptions.
Off to IMHO.
No, actually, not. ssskuggiii, you’ve been a member since April. If you haven’t seen the forum descriptions in all that time, there’s not a lot I can do for you.
I’m closing this thread. Please feel free to open it in another forum.
