We’ve been playing this for the last few days at work, competing for the best score. At this point though, almost all of us are tied for the top score and several of us have acheived it multiple times, so we’re starting to think that it’s the upper ceiling and it’s a waste of time to keep trying to beat it.
Can you guys please get addicted to this game like we are and let me know if you beat our score so we know whether or not to keep playing?
Further playing shows me that I’m not going to get anywhere near 577. When I played it was on a different site. The code must’ve been slightly different.
A similar game was posted at a different website (http://www.meph.eu.org/pinguin.swf). It apparently has different measurements, because the highest I ever got on that was 593.5. I just thought I’d throw that out there to support the upper-limit theory. But yeah… surprisingly addictive. It’s also causing rivalries because (on the meph.eu.org version) my friend got 593 after about 30 minutes, and I got 593.5 in about 6. Good times are had by all.
I think the guy who re-coded realized people would have more fun if the bird flew farther. The other version did max out at around 320 for me and everybody I know who tried it.
That said, I think it could use some more work, since it still punishes people who hit the penguin really far in the air. In home run derby-type things, that’s the whole object.
GAH! I got like about 320 on the first hit, and then an’t get it again, so I don’t know if I really did, since I didn’t knwo that that was quite good and didn’t memorise the score
Hey, guys, how come the same stuff can lead to different measurements?
Well, I like the one that wack the pingin further
Did you notice the reference to the Reinhold book : Yeti? This guy saw the yeti and spent the rest of his life looking for it. 1978 is for his first Everest climb without oxygen.
I bet they have pretty strong alcohols in Himalaya…
Does anyone else find it a little…weird…that the Penguin in question is not only (a) alive but (b) enjoying his little flight? I mean, the fact that he can actually look back to see how far he’s gone is just… spooky.
I got 478.6 at that one, but at this one (much more similar to the link in the OP) my best is 323.5. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the maximum. Anyone know any flash editing/coding, to settle it once and for all?
By the way, if you can isolate the .swf itself, as in Sqube’s link, you can make the game fill the window, which seems to help.
