Help me with these Futurama and Family Guy references.

Hi,

a two part question,

  1. In the episode of Futurama (A Roswell That Ends Well) where they go back in time to 1947, there’s a scene where President Truman is delivered on an airplane in a crate labeled “Canned Eggs” through which he breaks through using his own brute force. Now obviously it’s either a reference or just a joke at the expense of Truman, but I don’t get it. Canned eggs?

2a) What is that red stuff coming out of your ear?

2b) In the episode of Family Guy where Peter goes hunting for the killer fish (sorry forgot what it was called) before entering the cove they pass by a weird looking guy with long arms saying “I wonder where that fish did go, a fish, a fish, a fishy, o-o-o-o-o-oh!”. The whole scene looks pythonesque, but unless it’s just a completely random joke in the style of Monty Python, I have no clue what it’s referring to.

Regards,

Groman

2b) It’s hidden in his trousers! Sorry, this thread will be rife with Python quotes, I suspect.

Monty Python and The Meaning of Liff.

I don’t think “canned eggs” has any particular significance, except to introduce a box of typically unpalatable military food (though I doubt they ever canned eggs - they powdered them) and then abruptly have Truman smash his was out of the crate, it being an effective disguise because who the hell would be interested in canned eggs?

  1. Agreed. The scene was a joke showing what a tough SOB Truman supposedly was. Though I don’t think he literally could bust out of a wooden crate. I love the old 1940s tough guy persona. I remember watching a WWII documentary for the War Dept by John Houghston where the actual General in charge is talking to the camera. He has his hands on his hips hat tilted and talking out of the side of his mouth like some film gangster. I don’t think his sleeves were rolled up, but you know sooner or later they would be.

Hot crackers! I take exception to that!

I’m not hearing a no…
