Okay, just decided tonight to pull out some of my old Gamecube games to play on my Wii for the first time. Now I can’t get the memory card out of its port! What’s the secret to do this? Help!
Ummm…pull really hard? I don’t think there is any kind of “locking” mechanism on the Wii for the GC memory cards. Did the save states all load OK? Cause the only think I can think of is that the card went in off center and is stuck on a corner, or something.
Ex-Nintendo Customer Support Agent, at your service.
You did plug it into the GCN ports on the side of the console, and didn’t somehow cram it into the SD card on the front, right?
Assuming so, just pull really hard as the previous poster suggested. It really shouldn’t take much effort. Is it an official Nintendo memory card? If not, it may be shaped differently, hence the difficulty in removing it.
It’s a generic (I know, I know) that worked just fine in my Gamecube. I honestly pull as hard as can (which is pretty hard), but it still won’t come out! It really does feel like it’s locked in place.
Oh, and yes, it is plugged in to the proper port. The Wii read the data properly and everything, I just can’t get the darn thing back out!
Very odd, to my knowledge, the memory card ports are identical on both the Wii and the GCN. Might there be something else stuck in there, preventing its escape?
Have you tried holding the Wii in place with one hand, and disengaging the memory card with the other?
dude, you really are an ex service tech. They just have this way of suggesting the most obvious solutions in a friendly helpful tone that non the less makes you feel as stupid as a “special needs” child.
Well, even intelligent people have their off days
Sometimes people are afraid of breaking their system, and are even more careful than they need to be.
Tie a string to the memory card, and the other end to a doorknob, then slam!
My Wii is similar, they made the card ports and sockets insanely tight. The first time plugging in a Gamecube controller, I had to muscle and wiggle with all my might to get the controller in the port. I was sure I was going to break the housing. It was just as bad getting it back out again.
But after I did it once, it seems the pins and stuff strained enough to loosen up, and now the controllers and cards are merely snug.
Finally got it… had to hold the Wii down with my knee and pull with both hands!
Were you muttering death threats to the Nintendo engineers under your breath as you did it?
