How do I get a blank MP3 - that’s right I want it to ‘play’ nothing for about 5 minutes before it moves on to a song. Basically I want to delay the playing of another song. How can I do this?
I would decode it into a .wav file, use an editing program such as Cool Edit Pro to ad the silence, then encode back into an mp3.
I was able to create a silenent wav file whhich is close enough for my purposes. Using windows sound recorder w/ nothing hooked up to the mike. I recorded 1 minute, copies the file and mereged the 2 files 4 times to get 5 minutes. I’m using windows media player so I can mix mp3 and wav.
I know mp3 is smaller file size but it’s not staying that long anyway.
Thanks, this thread is solved
I use MusicMatch to record MP3s. It has a line-in option to allow recording from sources other than CD, such as tape. To make a blank MP3 all I would need to do is set it to line-in and have nothing connected to my sound card’s input jack. If you do something like this, you might as well use a lower bit rate since sound quality obviously will not be a factor to consider.

dwc1970: For the love of God man, PUT DOWN THE ENCODER! Didn’t you know that using MusicMatch makes the Baby Jesus cry? MusicMatch has some serious issues that result in it making some of the lowest quality MP3s around. You can find more details at the R3Mix.net Encoder Analysis page.
I would suggest that you use the Exact Audio Copy CD ripper combined with the LAME MP3 Encoder. This will produce the highest quality MP3s possible, along with perfect CD extraction (no pops, clicks, skips, or beeps due to extraction errors). If you poke around on r3mix.net you can find some quality comparisons of the various MP3 encoders available.
Trust me, the quality difference is VERY noticable.
