Help please! Is this offensive??

Demo, have you ever not had a hard time digesting any statement I’ve made?

Your point is well taken, though. Just because a lot of mainstream, family-oriented newspapers run stuff like this doesn’t automatically make it an acceptable practice. But, unless Kelli’s paper is geared exclusively towards children, where do you draw the line with what can and can’t be advertised? Should all rated “R” movie ads be banned? After all, children have no business associating with them. How about ads for alcohol/tobacco? Get rid of them, too? Eighty-six the bra ads that Macys runs every other day? Maybe they shouldn’t have listings for movies on The Spice Channel or any of the other adult stations, or even HBO and Showtime for that matter? Do we want to wind up with a paper that doesn’t offend anyone? It’s gonna’ be mighty small if we do. Don’t get me wrong, Dem, I’m not pushing one side or the other here. It just seems that we’re going a wee bit overboard in keeping our children sheltered from the “bad, naughty” things out there in life.

Touche’. I guess, in a perfect world, we could allow complete freedom of these types of things because we would be able to help guide our children through the rough stuff. I definitely don’t want my kids suddenly exposed to everything when they are 18, but I think a certain amount of filtering is needed. Certainly the ad/site/paper all need much closer examination to determine what is correct in any case.

One thing though,

If they do this, I’m leaving the country. Hell, I grew up on those things! My dad always called it the “Poor Man’s Playboy”.

Mike Mulligan had a steam shovel,
a beautiful red steam shovel.
Her name was Mary Anne.

In your place, I would decide against; this is not just a nightclub, but a site for swingers, and that’s over my line. My personal call, admittedly, but there it is.

My first reaction was to say ditch it, but then you explained the types of ads you have run before having adult content. Also, the site itself is pretty clean without membership.

It’s borderline, for the reasons above about kids access to websites. However, I’d probably say it’s okay. It’s listed in the clubs section with personals, then it’s okay. I think it fits the context and is not offensive. If there are any kids not old enough to deal with it, their parents should be able to filter out without getting through the disclaimer page. (Hell, I almost didn’t get through the disclaimer page - the box at the bottom was a link I didn’t catch at first.)

If they’re old enough to search the web without supervision, they’re old enough to read the page and be aware of the lifestyle, and ask the questions of what it’s about.

Just my opinion.

My $.02. I would say it’s O.K., in light of the fact that you’ve run ads for adult entertainment in the past. If a kid accesses the site and askes their parents uncomfortable questions, well, that’s something they have to deal with. I didn’t see anything on the basic site that I would not feel comfortable discussing with a tennager. Tell ya what tho, give me $20 and i’ll let you know in more detail later

Cecil said it. I believe it. That settles it.

Or discussing with a teenager either.

Cecil said it. I believe it. That settles it.

Irishman, I agree with your last paragraph. The site is rather neutral, any kid that went to it and was interested enough to read on, is old enough to at least have a conversation regarding such issues. The site itself is done tastefully and discreetly.

I like it here-can I stay?
And do you have a vacancy for a Back-scrubber?

OK kellibelli, what happened? Did the advertisment run? Were all of the swingers in New Brunswick denied their outlet? Did masses of parents storm the paper in protest?

You can’t leave us hanging here with a cliffhanger like this.

well, the ad is booked and schedule to go to print on tuesday, it will be in Fridays paper.

I still have time to pull it, but I think I will let it run and wait for feedback.

I cant find anything ‘adult’ in the site…even the jokes are clean. All they do is refer to swinging, and since the paper did a story on the swingers last year…I will risk it. I will keep you all informed.

Just a note to let you know waht happened…

The ad I booked is running for 13 weeks, there have been NO complaints at all.

When they wanted to run the same ad in the other papers in the province (all owned by one company) it was given to another rep who handles the other papers. (some of you might remember this rep as the one who complained of my internet usage at work) She took one look at the ad and wigged out. Despite my assertions that there was NOTHING at the sight, she went squeeling to the brass, who without even looking at the sight shut them down…they now cannot advertise in any paper in the province. (They are allowed to finish the run booked with me.)

Squeely later wandered over to gush: “gee, you were right, there was nothing on the sight”

D’uh. If she had checked it herself, or had had the brass actually LOOK at the sight, this never would have happened. But NO, she took one look, and off she went.

So, thanks for your help guys…

*THE END

A great new place to play!

Thanks, kelli. I was wondering what happened.
