My sister has some how contracted some kind of trojan.
We ran a check on Trend micro. It found 2 trojans but said the files could not be accessed. Trend micro said they were called “hidewindA” and “floody” and were located in C:/restore archives.
Symantec has nothing on either of those “trojans.”
If they are in the “restore” directory, coiuldn’t you simply disable System Restore and reboot? That would delete all the restore points and theoretically, the “trojans.”
Viruses in the _restore folder are harmless unless you do a system restore, at which point you can be infected. If you don’t use system restore, they can safely be ignored; they will eventually be deleted automatically.
Turning off System Restore will get rid of the virus, but you’ll lose all your restore points. That’s not usually a problem, though.
Thanks for the info folks.
She is running windows ME by the way. When she ran her virus checker it said that it had found and repaired 190+ viruses,(It seems her 14 Y/O daughter has found the download button?).Seems something was/is eating her available RAM.
