Can anyone help me? I am trying to find some Disney films on videotape. These were made in the 1950’s and are currently not released by Disney. They are:
-PERRI: about a squirrel-great photography
-'THE VANISHING PRAIRIE"-about the animals and life on the great prairies
-“THE LIVING DESERT”: great wildlife film about the life in the american desert
AMAZON doesn’t have these-does anybody know where I can find these?
I found all 3 on a database called WorldCat, which librarians use to do preliminary searches for interlibrary loans. I would recommend that you go to the biggest library you have free access to (academic if possible) and request them via ILL.
I did not find video versions of all 3, but my search was pretty quick. The first two I only found as the original films.
Good luck.
I’m sorry that was such a half-a**ed answer, egkelly. I’ll e-mail you the best results I get from WorldCat, then you’ll have something more solid to take to the reference desk with you.
Vanishing Prairie - There several copies of this tape up for sale on eBay (as well as the book on which it was based): http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=vanishing+prairie
Perri - Nothing up for sale right now, but it’s likely that a copy will show up sooner or later. There’s some Perri related merchandise available now… so just sit tight on the video for awhile
Living Desert - Again, several copies available at eBay: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&pb=&ebaytag1=ebayreg&ht=1&query=living+desert&ebaytag1code=0
Bidding pressure for these items seems light. I think you could pick them up for less than $10 each (including shipping).
As a side note - these videos were part fo a series of films and books called “True Life Adventures”
good luck!
I have had great success with used books and videos at half.com and abebooks.com. If you don’t mind used copies, you can pick up just about anything for a reasonable price and avoid the auction hassle.
Once again, good luck!
