Help Wanted: NFL Commish. Inquire within.

i think i like it just about as much as that verbal jab i just ate from you.
arg…the lions…i just…i…i…arg…they defy explanation sometimes, you know?

At least this year they’ll get rid of Joey Harrington before the season is in the crapper.

Remind me why you hate the Packers?

I like your platform, by the way. How do you stand on the one-point-after-a-touchdown issue? I understand there’s actually a constituency around this issue, and they have their own lobbying group: PATPAC.

Omni states a good case, except for his blatant anti-Packer-ism. (Anti Billy Packer, yes. Anti Green Bay Packer, no.) My vote is torn between him and BobLibDem. I’d add the Rose Bowl in Pasedena and Detroit’s Ford Field to the Super Bowl stadium rotation.

hehheh.

Am I actually considered a conservative on this board? Wow.

You guys would hate me as commish. I’m a big fan of:

  • the one point kick PAT
  • sudden death overtime
  • the tuck rule (It’s not really it’s own rule; it’s an extension of the definition of what a forward pass is, and I would be very against changing that definition.)
  • commercial breaks to ease the painfully dead air caused by team changes. (before & after kickoffs and after punts)
  • the 4 preseason / 16 regular season game schedule
  • winding the clock when on going out of bounds before 5:00 left in the 4th (and before the two minute at halftime)
  • the endzone extending out of bounds

Some of the ideas here that I would love to see:

  • Adopt the NCAA replay system
  • Revert pass interference to the way it was before the Colts whined like bitches about the Pats
  • Widen the hash marks
  • I love Omni’s cap exemption for veterans idea. (Strahan anyone?) But I would limit it to players drafted by the team. (As in, played for a single team their entire career. Sucks for guys like Elway and Eli, but fuck 'em if they buck the system.)

A couple quick points:

The Giants don’t play many MNF games at all. (Thankfully; Big Blue sucks on Monday night. Hard.)

Also, Omni hates the Pack because he’s a Bears fan, naturally.

I am the anti-Sports-Guy as far as Super Bowl sites go: at least every other Super Bowl would be in a northern, outdoor stadium. Green Bay. New England. Chicago. Philly. The hell with all the businessmen and groupies, I want football. I’m all about the toned-down-halftimes though - marching bands and montages would be perfect.

I am undecided on overtime; I don’t think the current college system has much of a place in the NFL, and I don’t really mind the way the current system works out.

I am HUGELY in favor of restricting the number of media timeouts, for this and other sports. Unfortunately, you’d have to convince the rest of the league to give up massive amounts of TV money for that one, and good luck.

I don’t know that I’d really want the job, but I could certainly stand for being an extremely influential owner who gets to whisper these ideas in the commish’s ears.

I considered this, but dismissed it. Not for the sake of Elways and Elis, but for guys like Favre, Bettis and Faulk. You can’t say they don’t deserve similar treatment to Jerry Rice and Joe Montana just because they were drafted by the Falcons, Rams and Colts respectively. In no way did they leverage their way out of town or buck the system. A guy like Favre could theoretically have been swallowing a tough pill (and being a stand up guy by not bitching about it) by being traded from the southern, big city Falcons to the frigid, small town Packers. I think the trick is finding that right length of tenure number for the guy.
