HELP! Wifi connection problem.

My laptop can detect the wireless network and can connect to it but I can’t connect to the internet. Our router was recently changed. I tried connecting to the internet using another laptop connected to the same network and it works just fine. I tried using the old router again but I still can’t connect to the net. Before it was working alright. How can I solve this? I don’t know much about computer terms etc. So I’ll be very thankful for an instruction which I can easily follow. Thanks.

Btw I’m using Windows Vista. Thanks.

One thing that usually works when I have the problem is to shut down the modem and the router, turn the modem back on, wait for the blinks to turn steady, then connect DIRECTLY to the modem with the laptop. Go to the modem’s home page, which is usually something like 192.168.0.1, and make sure your account is logged in. Once you can confirm all of that, power the router back on, and plug the router into the modem and it should work from that point.

Another thing that can cause this is an old network profile that has information that is no longer valid. Go to Network & Sharing, click on ‘Manage Wireless Networks’ on the left side, and delete the profile for the network you are trying to connect to. Then try to connect to the network again, and check 'Connect Automatically". This will create a new profile that should work every time you start Windows.
