Help with DVD+R burner - HP DVD Writer 400i

I’ve had a problem where my DVD Writer doesn’t recognize anything and doesn’t want to burn anything. Unfortunately, HP in its infinite wisdom didnt’[ even give me the required software, although it appears to be avalable on the website. However, they ALSO didn’t give me the basic drivers needed to use the software!

Short version: the drivers are free, but there’s 10 bucks shipping on a 5 days with the post ofice! The cheapskates won’t let you download it.

Anyone have the RecordNow software available? Or knw some other way I can get this HP DVD Writer 400i working? It reads DVD’s just fine and dandy. It just doesn’t want to burn them without software.

Edit: Nevermind. I found an old version on Download.com. Apparently this isn’t in-house stuff at all. It’s Roxio’s. Sorry! I think I actually broke a board rule there by accident.

What are you trying to burn CD’s or DVD’s? If XP reconizes the disk as a CD burner (it should so this once the unit is plugged in) you can simply use Windows explorer to burn a data CD.XP media player will burn mp3s as standard audio CDs.

If you’re trying to burn a DVD (I never tried this with the XP OS) you may nned to use a cd-dvd burning program. I believe XP media player 11 may burn DVD’s but I have not tried this. There should also be some cd-dvd burners available as freeware or shareware.
