Help with Hotmail spam filters, please

I’m making one last-ditch effort to salvage a hotmail address I’ve used for years, but has been buried by spam. I’ve used the inbox protector, and added a lot of what I think are key-word filters to try to sift thru the junk coming in, and I still get 6 or 7 spams a day. That’s better than the 30 I used to get, but I wonder if I can do better. Questions:

  1. Does capitalization count in a filter? One is set to filter out “casino”, but “Casino” constantly slips thru.

  2. Anybody got a list of good words or phrases to use that will filter out a high percentage of spam?

  3. Should I just pack it in and abandon the address?

(well, not hat really. I don’t have my hat with me. I’m sitting in front of the computer in gym shorts.)

I have the same problem…still. I have however used the filter that allows only addresses in your address book be delivered to your inbox. That helped tremendously for awhile…I think the spam people must somehow figure out a way to bypass that once the figure out you have it. If for instance an old friend tries to email you and they are not in your address book, the mail is then sent to bulk mail. At least you have 2 weeks to make sure nothing gets sent there by accident, before it is deleted. Also you have the option of the safe list feature. Safe list works fairly well also. I have added my most common email friends to this so that they are never sent to anything but inbox.

All of these options worked for a limited time only, for some reason, I have recently started getting spam again.
I have also tried mailing all the stuff back to postmaster@(whatever it came from).com to try to get rid of it alltogether. This is extremely time consuming. And also by the time you mail it postmaster the spammer has 50 new addresses just like it and is at it again. I am considering giving up my hotmail address for this reason. Good luck to you, I hate spam just as much as you do.

I have the same problem with my hotmail account but I use Outlook Express to access it so deleting spam is quite easy. I just copy to my local folders any email I want and then delete the rest. One thing I have noticed is that I get a lot of spam with MSN addresses (I am sure they are fake). I have blocked all mail from any MSN address in my POP3 accounts but I cannot seem to do it in Hotmail…
