Help with my computer's playback rate..please?

K, I’d never come here unless I was about out of ideas, so indulge me please.

I purchased a GW 1.4 GhZ many years ago, the MB went bad about 3-4 months ago and I was pretty-much forced to buy another GW/Intel board to replace that one- that one was nicer though the Board can do 533Mhz on the FSB and my cpu is P4 2.53 Ghz, I have 640MB of RDRAM and a Rosewill Geforce card with 256MB of onboard memory and YET this computer will still not play back video footage in a larger format or sometimes medium sized format where the lips of people match the words that come out.

It’s like watching old asian martial arts movies… I have an dedicated AGP 4x slot only, but the rub is that my father has always bought cheapy-stuff with Celeron processors and all onboard stuff and he is playing full-screen news footage perfectly… I ran SiSoft SANDRA and it said that my AGP bit wasn’t “fully optimized”- but my knowledge trails off when it comes to how to “fully optimize” it.

Another detail that’s worth mentioning- wait for it- I’m still running Windows ME, but really I’m one of the few that isn’t having problems with this OS.

The AGP card is not a good one I admit, but I really was thinking if the machine had a place to store alot of video memory related info that it would work @ a decent framerate; the card is an AGP 4x/8X which means it’s holding back a bit to function on my system. throws hands in the air I don’t know… I pretty much give up… does somebody out there know how I can just play fullscreen video. Technically I should have what i need to do th-at.

Btw, if you’re wondering my RDRAM is PC800 I believe it’s the 45ns variety… any technical insight is appreciated. Geeks of the world, flock to me!

I run into problems with streaming video when the sync is lost. A restart of the application playes back correctly the next time. You should have a good playback with the system. The sybc is something that can screw up because of streaming video feed. The video can be set to drop frames when needed for when the machine can’t handle all the data, but it shouldn’t be a problem. Have you set the Bios to allot 256MB as the memory available for video transfer? Is the Bios set for AGP 4x mode? Bring up your task manager, and look at the CPU usage for the processor. It should read under 100%. I expect your system should max at 66% for video play back. You can try setting the operating priority for above average. Graphics cards are optimised for generating game graphics. That is what has pushed their develement to a large degree for years. Video playback is not main focus of video cards.

After reading you have ME, I answered for XP. The priorty setting and task manager are out.

The card doesn’t run slower the maximum data troughput on the AGP slot is just 4x speed instead of 8x.

It would help to know if your running an internet show, DVD, or video from the hard drive. My problems happen the most if the feed is a bit slower than the play playback. It goes out of sink while the player pauses and waits for data.

I think I’m having the same issue, I played a DVD today with no problems- so it must be web-based fullscreen/medium sized screen problems.

I checked my BIOS, it’s incredibly basic with no control over memory allotment, I checked in my graphics card settings it’s set as high as I’m able to go with the acceleration. So I think it’s maxed-out in this regard.

Maybe when I finally migrate all my info over to Windows XP pro (which is just sitting on my shelf) I’ll be able to get a better grasp of things. Dunno, there’s got be something that my father’s el cheapo computer is doing that mine is not… it’s a bit newer; possibly the FSB and Ram is faster…
