Many of the major stores are offering discounts on satellite radio this weekend. I’m considering getting it for my car. I’ve decided that I’m neutral between Sirius and XM. However, all these different receivers leave my head spinning. My car, 2002 VW Jetta already has a premium sound system with CD, so I am looking at some of these other satellite receivers which work wirelessly? How well do they work? Anyone have any experience with this type of situation?
Yeah, when I went from my Explorer to the Montana I had to switch. I had the ‘in dash’ XM for the Explorer but I really dug the system that was in my Montana (steering wheel controls). So I went with the XM FM system. It works sweet. I mounted a small component on my dash that takes the signal from the antenna and broadcasts on 107.7 FM (other channels are available in the 88 region). The regular stereo antenna picks that up and bang…XM through my radio.
It’s sweet and I couldn’t live without it.
The wife got me a SkiFi XM receiver for my birthday, and I love it. A small antenna magnetically attaches to the roof or trunk, and you run the wire into the passenger compartment. The SkyFi unit broadcasts on , for me, 88.5 FM. I set my stereo to that freq, and Viola!
I picked XM because they have every single MLB game. Sirius has football, which I couldn’t care less about. Other than that, they are pretty much the same.
