Help with systray

Can someone tell me how I can shut off what automatically starts upon opening Windows. I think it involves your systray, I may be wrong about that too. For some reason, when windows starts up on my computer it searches for a file that is no longer on my hard drive. I would like to turn off everything that starts up when I open Windows so I can speed up the start up process. Any ideas?

Find your start up menu. Delete whatever you dont want.

start menu does not cover .dll’s. and you may accidently eliminate programs that you need starting. You would probalbly need a tweak program such as Tweaki for Power Users. It has a system configuration utility (SCU) that can help you which progrms start using which .ini files (win.ini, start.ini, etc.)

Actually, with win98 (and probably 2000), you can type “msconfig” into the run menu, and it brings up a program that lets you edit exactly what you need to. Just go to the Startup tab in msconfig, and uncheck everything that you don’t want starting up every time.

Follow TheNerd’s advice, but also make sure to uninstall programs using the add/remove programs program in the Control Panel, don’t start deleting directories until you’ve done this.

TheNerd is right…
for win95 its a little trickier…
go start/run/regedit

then go to hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion

In there you’ll find folders called “Run” “run once” “Run services” stuff like that… you can rename those… (I just renamed them with a dash at the end… ie… “run-”
