The other day i downloaded what seemed to be the most recent version of Windows Media Player - the Series 9 Beta for Windows ME. I started to get a few problems with it - for example, a 20-minute .avi video would sometimes actually indicate a running time of over an hour in the bottom corner of the Media Player, meaning that if i tried to click on the progress bar to fast-forward the video, it would go beyond the real length of the movie and just stop playing.
Anyway, i decided to get rid of the new Player and go back to the old one. I couldn’t find Windows Media Player in the Add/Remove Programs area, so i just downloaded Media Player 7.1 and installed it, hoping that it would over-write the Series 9 version.
However, since rebooting my computer the Media Player doesn’t work at all. When i try to launch it i get told that there is an “Internal Application Error” and then i get a dialog box asking if a want to send an error message to Microsoft. Sometimes i will also, at an apparently random later time, get a message that there has been an error in wmp.dll, and that the Media Player will now close. I wanted to get rid of the Player altogether and start from scratch, but there is no Media Player option in the Add/Remove Programs area, and when i try to just delete the file Media Player in the Windows folder, i am told that the application is currently in use and cannot be deleted.
Help! please!
