Calling all Dopers who knit or crochet or likewise play with yarn…
A sad (but stupid :smack: tale)…
I finally finished my first garment, a shell, and it came out quite nicely, if I do say so myself. Much thanks to Jolene Treace, the knitter who designed the pattern, who was nice enough to respond to my e-mail questions with much patience and grace.
Anyhoo, my next project was actually finishing up a project for my MIL. I was making her armrest covers for her sofa and loveseat in a mosaic pattern. They’re fairly big, 20 inches by 30 inches, done with two different colored yarns (as is required for mosaic knitting.)
It’s been while since I gave her the third one (a year ago Thanksgiving, if I recall) and I’m working on the fourth and final one, and I’m getting down to the end of the yarn. No biggie, thought I, as it’s a no-dye lot yarn from Michael’s, fairly generic Red Heart Super Saver yarn.
Except I can’t find one of the colors! Is it possible they stopped making it? Coats and Clark, which makes Red Heart Yarn, cannot be reached vie e-mail yet ( :dubious: ) and searching on line is difficult since I can’t exactly match the color, which is a medium brown color, not too light, and not too dark.
I’m almost sure it’s Red Heart Super Saver Yarn, and I’m fairly sure the color is called Taupe, but of course the labels are long gone, since, I, in my cavalier attitude, never thought they’d stop making the damn yarn! I spent half an hour at Michael’s wandering up and down the aisles looking at the browns, but they were all either too dark or too light.
Any suggestions? I still have a fair amount left of the taupe (?) to keep going a few more rows, but not enough to finish. I’ve visited two Michael’s and I’ll try a Joann’s next. I’m willing to snip off a piece and mail it to someone to see if they could match it.
Lesson learned…KEEP THE YARN LABELS UNTIL YOU ARE COMPLETELY DONE WITH YOUR PROJECT!!! :smack:
