Firstly may I say that I love Jimi Hendrix. To me, his music, attitude, appearance, etc. . (I could go on) epitomise everything it is that make an artist great.
However, I have already purchased and/or otherwise obtained every CD (except for a couple of those post-humous albums) of his that I know of.
Can anyone recommend any other bands/music that a Hendrix tragic such as myself might like?
There is the solo work of Hendrix follower/imitator (depending on your point of view) and 70s guitar icon Robin Trower. His albums Bridge of Sighs, Twice Removed from Yesterday, and For Earth Below are probably the most Hendrix-esque - the title track of FEB especially so. His collaborations with Jack Bruce on the album B.L.T. are decent but most of his 80s and 90s stuff that I heard was unremarkable.
There are many greatest hits/best of collections of his out there to choose from. Many well-reviewed live albums as well, but I’ve heard very few.
Three words: Stevie Ray Vaughan
Mahogany Rush, especially their older stuff.
Agreed. His riffs are borrowed heavily from the master. But then, most rock musicians have to give a nod to Jimi.
I think Kaspar Brotzman Massacre are in that vein. Kaspar plays strats through Marshall stacks, whick is a good start. As an aside, Kaspar is the son of Peter Brotzman, the sax player from Last Exit.
Stevie Ray Vaughn was probably the most proficient Hendrix disciple and a great muscian in his own right.
This mind sound like an odd suggestion but the Red Hot Chili Peppers might be worth checking out. The guitarist is quite Hendrixy at times and the whole band just has that same type of funkadelic feel to it.
Oh, and Lenny Kravitz. He’s not as good but he’s a similar sort of songwriter.
Believe it or not, Yngwie Malmsteen claims that one of his primary influences is Jimi Hendrix. I saw him, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani rip off a fairly interesting version of “Red House” not too long ago. Would’ve given a limb to see Hendrix do it himself, though, and I would have pushed those three guys out of the way to see it, too.
Not really the same, but definitely spawned from the same influences is Roy Buchannan. Check his stuff out.
And if you’re really broad-minded, the band Shudder to Think slides a Hendrix reference into almost everything they do (or did), be it lyrical or musical. They sound nothing at all like him, but they regularly credited Hendrix as their inspriation.
How about Miles Davis? Hendrix’s jazzier stuff reminds me of Miles.

John Coltraine, Thelonious Monk, or any of the bop musicians would also be worth looking into.

Well, it’s obvious from his music that he didn’t listen very well.
God dammit, why can’t I ever remember to preview? Mods, can you fix that coding please? Thanks.
I keep thinking about The Watchtower and *Lush Life *…
I’d recommend Cream. Claption’s guitar style in the band is very similar to Jimi - Plenty of excess.
How about Devo? Their video even has Hendrix coming out of his coffin to play a solo.
Indigenous. A kickass band of brothers from an Indian reservation.
