Henry Rifle -- Caliber opinions wanted

I’ve just been reminded that I’ve been wanting a Henry rifle for a couple of decades, so I’ve started looking. Based on my experiences with several Uberti Colts, I want to get an Uberti. But what caliber?

.44-40 is ‘traditional’. On the other hand, I have a Ruger Blackhawk in .45LC. If I got one in .45LC the ammo would be interchangeable. OTOH, I don’t shoot enough to be bothered by the inconvenience of yet another caliber. I’m leaning toward the ‘traditional’ .44-40 caliber.

What do you think?

If the .44/40 was the original round used in the thing there wouldn’t be any question about it in my mind. I’m one of those folks that believes if you are getting a traditional rifle you should get the traditional ammo to go with it. However, since the original Henry fired a .44 rimfire which you can’t get in a reproduction, I’m not so bothered by the .45LC. Neither one is really the absolute “right” version.

That said, though, if it were me I’d probably get the .44/40.

I’ve never shot a Uberti but from what I hear they do have a good reputation.

Yes, the .44 rimfire is a little hard to come by nowadays.

I’ve never shot an Uberti that used fixed ammunition, but I’ve shot my Uberti Navies quite a bit. (Haven’t gotten round to shooting the others yet.) I’m impressed by their fit, finish, and accuracy.
