Didn’t future Peter time stop while invisible? Has he ever used TK while invisible? Not 100% sure on those…
The point is not whether Peter could or could not use more than one power at a time under normal circumstances. The point is that he was not able to use more than one power at a time while he was busy trying not to blow up. I don’t understand why this is such a stumbling block. Peter may have at some point used two or three or six powers at once, but while he was busy trying not to blow up he couldn’t access his other powers.
This didn’t really bother me that much. At that point Sylar had already lost the fight, Peter had pummeled him with Nikis super strenght and that has to take its toll on anybodies reaction time. Even if it didn’t i just don’t think he was trying to fight back anymore, that happened right after he said Peter was the bomb and Sylar was supposed to be the hero but had already realized he couldn’t win. As far as Sylar surviving the stabbing haven’t we seen him take bullets at the beggining of the season before his face was shown? i remember Parkman shooting at him once during a chase and while they didn’t show wether he stopped the bullets or not he clearly was down then dissapeared. Noah also shot him clear accross the room the time he invaded his home, and while once again no damage was shown he flew backwards rather than stop the bullets.
Otto, I’m with you. It’s others proposing the ‘one-power-at-a-time’ theory. Call my post an attempt at debunking, if you will, although all my cites have been erased from my DVR.
I read Sylar’s intent differently, based on the future we saw. I think he was baiting Peter, letting him get angry enough to lose control over his power – knowing that Peter would blow, leaving chaos through which Sylar could gain power. I don’t think he ever felt “beaten.” Course, this is just my read.
Well i dont see how he would think he could survive the explosion being right next to Peter at the time, i thought he was baiting Peter also but because he knew he had lost and if he couldn’t win he wanted them all to blow up.
Because he has the same “radioactive explosion” power, I assumed. We know he survived the explosion for purposes of the alternate future episode.
I think I’m the one that proposed the “one power at a time” hypothesis. On further reflection, I’d like to amend that: It’s the emo bangs that control how many powers Peter can control or access. Future scarred badass Peter, no emo bangs, had (will have) supreme control over multiple powers. When present day emo Peter lost the emo bangs, we saw a hint of the no-bangs Peter he would have become. However, the bangs came back (Claire’s regenerative ability must extend to the hair) and Peter reverted to being his old single-powered self.
This all sounds strangely familiar, like we’re stuck in a time loop. Hiro must’ve caused that rift he kept worrying about.
I’m curious as to how Sylar regarded the accuracy of the precog paintings. He seems to have a better handle on the powers than anyone else, after all.
He painted himself (not Peter) blowing up, which led to him running off to mommy. So he apparently believed that painting.
He painted himself as President, so he probably thought he’d survive the blowing up.
He painted himself facing off against someone he recognized as Peter, so he ran off for fight night.
But he dismissed Isaac’s recounting of the future-as-painted-by-Mystery-Sock, and he dismissed the comic-that-told-the-future (and his getting stabbed) which he picked up from Ando.
Did he think he could pick and choose which future came true? (apparently not, based on his running home to mommy) Did he think they all would come true? (and yet he apparently didn’t expect Hiro to stab him)
He painted himself going boom and ran home to mommy. Then he killed mommy and, as evidenced by his painting a picture in her blood, went even more completely nutters than he was already and perhaps started looking forward to blowing up NYC. But what does that say about his “I’m the hero” riff in the finale? Perhaps he decided when he realized Peter was going to explode that saving all the people would make him the specialest one of all, and if that didn’t then snagging all of Peter’s sponged powers plus the power to sponge powers without, you know, eating any more brains would.
I think that Sylar was definately taunting Peter with that “I’m the hero” bit. Peter is an easy read, and it’s obvious how that would mess with him. Sylar, on the other hand, is very good at getting into people’s heads (other than with TK, I mean) – as he’s done with Papa Suresh, Eden, Noah, Mohinder, etc.
Really, Sylar of all of them came closest to the comicbook stereotypes: dramatic gestures using his powers, witty commentary in battle, clever uses of his powers… if he’d only started dialoging his master plan he’d’ve been spot-on!
Molly said that the new guy was worse than Sylar*, I would say that’s a pretty strong indication that he’s a villain.
*I think having seen her parents killed by Sylar would give her an idea at how bad Sylar actually is.
Peter and Nathan can play dead and hide from Mommy, Candace can impersonate Nathan in Congress, and Mom can groom one of Nathan’s kids into being the Rich White Hope of the next gen. The bros can go into hiding with the Bennetts, and Mo can just be pretty.
I don’t know if anyone has said it yet or not, there is a lot to wade through here.
I think that Molly saw Peter, and Peter, having the ability to copy powers… looked back.
I just now got to see the ending. … Hands down beat the snot out of 24. Episode, and frankly, Season.
If I were writing, I’d have that be a twist - the man that scares Molly because he looks back is really a hero. I don’t think that will happen, though. She knows Sylar is scary because he murdered her parents. We don’t know what makes this new person scary other than he looks back.
Sorry I’m a bit late to the party here, I’ve been watching the series online and only got to the finale a couple of days ago. I felt compelled to post because I’ve got my own idea about who Molly saw that I haven’t seen mentioned yet.
When she looks for him, he looks back… It’s not exactly the same, but to me that sounds very similar to entering a person’s dreams. IIRC, we more or less went straight from that scene to Peter’s flashback/dream, which at first seemed very similar to Mohinder’s earlier experiences with Indian Kid Whose Name I Can’t Remember. Of course, it threw me a bit when Deveaux started talking back. And Flashback Boy hasn’t shown any signs of being evil. And it certainly wasn’t him that dragged Sylar into the sewer, if that is indeed what happened.
But still.
I thought it was worth mentioning.
And in that lecture, Mohinder said that g-d was a cockroach. So the almighty himself followed Syler down into the sewers… TO FINISH THE JOB! (That’s my theory and I’m stickin’ to it!)
As for the best moment of the episode (“Call me Noah.”) I was discussing this with a friend of mine, and it suddenly hit me that there -is- a slight biblical connection there. IIRC, the flood occured in the old testament because of the existance of the Nephilim; half-angels. Beings of great power (‘Giants in the Earth’). The allmighty doesn’t like that at all, so he decides to wash it all out and start over. Only one man and his family are spared; Noah. So, we have the ‘whole world’ (New York, in this case) about to go to wash because of the Nephilim (heroes), and we have one normal man who can make a difference (Noah.)
Just something I thought about. Dunno how much water (no pun intended) it holds.
Speaking of which, I know it’s not from the last episode, but still, my favorite moment in the series, from the episode previous. The one that follows this line:
“What am I thinking now, Parkman?”
