I have a good friend who is in an abusive relationship. Well, actually he has married her now. She is not only abusive but has lied to him about several things; her age, education, and various things in her past.
My friend is now suffering with painful herepes sores. This came as a surprise to me because he was a virgin when he married her, and she ALSO claimed to be a virgin.
She has told him that he has contracted the herepes virus because she suffered from cold sores on her mouth as a child, and it spread by her preforming oral sex on him.
I know cold sores are a strain (correct term?) of the herpes virus, but I was under the impression they were somehow distinctively different. That the oral type could not spread and become the genital type.
I would like to know for SURE… because this indeed (if she is cheating) could be the motivation he needs to finally leave this unhappy marriage.
It’s also possible that she has genital herpes, perhaps acquired during non-penetrative sex, and doesn’t know it, and that’s what she passed on to your friend.
Or perhaps he contracted herpes from oral or non-penetrative sex with a prior partner, and is only now symptomatic.
Or one of many other scenarios, since actual sexual intercourse is not required for virus transmission, and many people who have the virus are unaware that they do.
Your friend could have blood tests to determine if he has HSV 1 or 2, and they might be able to track his antibodies over time to determine if his is a new case…but it still wouldn’t tell him anything, since she could have acquired the virus in her past and only now passed it on to him.
