I do understand the frustration. Raising a little girl gives one a new perspective on the extent to which females in our society are judged on appearance. It is, however, unreasonable to expect someone who’s never met her to know how smart she is.
People stop me all the time to say how beautiful Celtling is - and even worse, they do this right in front of her, as if she weren’t there listening. I always say “Yes, I’m a very lucky Mommy. She’s got an excellent mind and a wonderful heart as well!”
Last night we were watching “The Swan Princess” an animated movie that she picked out from the bargain bin in the grocery store. When the prince asks Odette to marry him, she asks him why he loves her, and he says “Well, uh, you are so beautiful!” She asks “Yes, but isn’t there anything else?” And he says “What else is there?” And. She. Walks. Away.
I stood up and cheered.
The “Heartbreaker” label bugs me too. I’ve had that experience. It sucks royally.
