And that was part of my clarification request – despite magellan01’s explanation, I don’t understand how people can see it as anything more than a “political move”.

And this op-ed by Frank Rich (free reg. required?) sums the whole thing up very well, IMHO. Money shot line:

Sure, that’s hyperbolic. But how anyone can see McCain’s actions as anything but political theater is beyond me.
