He's behind bars. About time.

Mods: Not sure of the forum, feel free to move.

At long bloody last, the Serb Gvt. has gotten off its butt and have arrested Milosevich. Guarded cheers for Kostunica, and kudos to the US for applying the pressure needed. Bush is not my cup of tea, but I have to hand him this one.

Though Milosevich won’t be handed over to the war crime tribunal here & now, he’s facing charges in a Yugoslav court for corruption and power abuse. I for one can’t wait to see him in court, exposed as the miserable criminal he is. Kostunica has to play a very careful game here, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.

M.'s last stand fitted everything one has come to expect from him: 12 hours ago he “would never be taken alive” (my first thought: “That could probably be arranged”), but now, of course, he has given himself up. As if anyone would expect him to live up to such bravado.

A man who whipped up a nationalistic frenzy and kickstarted the first wars in Europe for 50 years or so - now he’s the accused in the court that used to do his bidding. Delightful irony, anyone ?

Put public spotlight his crimes. Pass a sentence. Lock him up. And we’ll still like to see him in the Hague, when you’re through with him.

There’s not much justice in this world, but sometimes - just sometimes - there’s a bit of it to be had.

I also didn’t believe his threat to be not taken alive(that option would have worked for me BTW ;). Lets hope that he is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I’d like to see him answer to a international court for what he did but any punishment will work for me.

I’m in the skeptic camp here.

Sure, arresting him is a step in the right direction. But keep in mind that he will be on trial for internal affairs. Fraud, abuse of power… my ass. This guy’s responsible for the worst ethnic cleansing since WWII. THAT ought to be the charge. But Kostunica isn’t going down that road. He may be a somewhat West-friendly nationalist bastard, but he’s still a nationalist bastard. Maybe he wants to hand Milosevic over to The Hague in his heart. But he’ll have hell to pay for when he does - even if Milosevic supporters are just 10% of the population, that’s still quite a lynching mob should you chose to hand their icon over to “the enemy”. He’ll never give Milosevic up for judgment abroad. We’re going to have to GET him. Mark my words.

Ah, the problem isn’t even Kostunica. He can’t really be blamed for taking the safe middle road he’s chosing now. The problem is the entire Balkan area, that will remain the powder barrel of Europe for a long, long time. No matter what we try from the outside.

I promised I was a skeptic.

I’ll believe justice has been served when I see his lifeless body swinging from a tree by his shriveled balls.

Just another glorified thug who is in reality a war criminal.
