Err, Hmm, links without quotes? I would stutter, too, if that’s all I had to back up the claim that was made.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a common “trope” about not criticizing the CiC about things he did wrt to a war in progress, but not just “criticizing”, in general. Since the claim was made about criticism in general, the proof to back up that claim needs to be about… criticism in general.
Not to mention the 2nd part of the equation, which is this thread is about conservatives criticizing liberals, not criticizing Obama.
Two damn near word for word cites is grasping at straws? If nothing else, people were under the apprehension that they’d be called unpatriotic for criticising the commander in chief.
I don’t even live in the US and I remember reading it on forums that purge frequently, but I’m glad I managed to trawl up this minimal amount of stuff.
Criticizing the CiC concerning his action in an ongoing war. This is what you said:
Why don’t you explain to us what criticism you’re talking about. This thread is slamming conservatives for criticizing liberals’ (alleged) elevation of Obama to Messiah levels.
How is that a criticism of Obama, in his capacity as CiC?
Tell me what I missing, because I just don’t see it.
Depends on who “we” is. If it is people on the SDMB, specifically, Merneith, Lemur866, Gagundathar, Happy Lendervedder, AtomicDog, River Hippie and Spoke, (honorable mention for **Onomatopoeia **and Lanzy) then according to this thread, “Savior” and “Messiah” would be a step down from what “you” think of him.
A summary of the thread: When asked who the ideal president would be, they chose Obama. Mind you, it wasn’t “who from the current crop of nominees” or “who that is eligible by the Constitution, running or not”. It was out of any person, American or not, eligible or not, alive or not. So, out of any of the human beings to ever walk the face of the Earth at any time, ever (estimated at 106 billion people) and including Jesus…Obama is the best there ever has been.
Hijacky sort of nitpick: Best evidence is that an Artorius Dux Bellorum ran around Britain leading ad hoc alliances of Britons against the invading Saxons and raiding Picts just after the Western Roman Empire came to an end. This does not equate to a belief in the King Arthur and His Round Table legendarium.
By the same token, best evidence is that a would-be religious reformer named Yehoshua bar Marian or bar Yosef led a popuar movement in Galilee during the early Roman Principate. You7 need not buy into Christian beliefs about Who He Really Was ™ to accept that raw datum. You are welcome, with a minority of scholars, to presume him to have been purely legendary – but be aware that the majority scholarly view is that such a man did exist and was the factual basis on which the Christian legendarium built – without, of course, buying into that legendarium as a matter of historical fact.
Why do you feel the need to keep reminding us? Everybody knows we are a bunch of idiots and Fox News is pure evil. Why don’t you spend your energy convincing everyone that He has done the best he possibly could and never suggested that he could do any better.
… or at least work on tearing down all of His Republican rivals. There is a whole forum dedicated to that for you.
I fear for your wellbeing if things don’t go your way in November.
