"He's very clean" - A Hard Day's Biden

Has Senator Biden’s comments about Barak Obama reminded anyone else of the running joke about Paul’s grandfather in A Hard Day’s Night?

Yes!

First thing I thought when I read it on Drudge but I couldn’t recall where I was remembering it from.

Thanks for reminding me

I never saw A Hard Day’s Night. But I’ll tell you what it does remind me of: On two occasions I’ve heard (middle-aged, female, white, possibly with mental issues) homeless women use it as a compliment toward a non-homeless person.

A link might help those who haven’t seen it…

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.

The actor who played grandpa in “A Hard Day’s Night” used to be a janitor on “Steptoe and Son”, the British Sandford and Son. The show had the catchphrase “you dirty old man”, hence the constant references to “he’s very clean”.

I doubt there is a link to “A Hard Days Night.” Just rent, or better yet, buy it. It’s the “Citizen Kane” of rock 'n roll movies.

“I got just one thing to say to you John Lennon. You’re a swine.”

LOL. Nice.

Unless you are serious. Then perhaps - and just perhaps - there may be a link to Biden’s remarks…

“What do you call that haircut?”
“Arthur.”

DOOH!!

Bitter Old Guy: “I fought the war for your sort!”
John Lennon: “Bet you’re sorry you won!”

I thought that was Ringo’s line.

Reporter: Are you a mod or a rocker?
Ringo: Neither. I’m a ‘mocker’.

Reporter: And how did you find America?
Lennon: Turned left at Greenland.

And the entire scene where John Lennon convinces the lady in the corridor that he isn’t really himself cracks me up every time.

How about the scene when John Lennon puts the Coka Cola bottle to his nose?

I just quoted that movie Friday night, when I turned to my boyfriend and said, “Stop being taller than me!”

Of course he didn’t get the reference, so I had to explain to him about the movie and the manager and the manger’s assistant, and by then it wasn’t funny at all.

My favorite quote remains John’s imitation of the Queen: “I now declare this bridge open!”

“Are you and your father close?”

“No, actually- we’re just good friends.”

Cracks me up every time.

Biden’s “clean” comment didn’t remind me of “Hard Days Night” (I haven’t seen that movie in years!) but the “articulate” remark reminded me of a comment (which has since turned into a long-running joke) that a friend of mine’s dad had made many years ago about Ed Bradley. My friend was watching 60 Minutes at his parents’ house when his dad walks through the room, looks at the TV, and pauses.

Friend’s Dad: “Is that fellow colored?”
Friend: “Yes…”
Friend’s Dad: “He’s very articulate.”
