How are you faring in the Apocolypse? Here’s some Ark-building tips, in case you need them.
Nary a leak, either in the basement (which has always been pretty dry) or in the roof (which I’ve been patching industriously at, and which seems now to be holding.
Of course, my lawn looks like brown soup now.
I was in New York Saturday night. Yesterday morning the area near Madison Square Garden looked like a war zone, and it was the umbrellas that lost.
I actually saw blue sky in Connecticut.
Monday 40°F | 35°F Rainy
Tuesday 50°F | 34°F Partly cloudy
Wednesday 58°F | 39°F Sunny
Thursday 57°F | 37°F Partly cloudy
All the big trees fell down in our last big storm. So this one was just wind and rain – lots of rain. And bleakness. Don’t forget the bleakness.
Our basement has about an inch of water, and we’ve moved all our items down there to higher ground. Hopefully it doesn’t rise too much further before this drains off, but we’re close to the ocean so I have a feel we’ll be dealing with the water for a bit.
I also got totally soaked walking to the train this morning, in spite of my galoshes and umbrella. I can’t wait to go home and change into pajamas and hunker down for the night.
What are you talking about?

Oh, look at that. I guess it is a bit damp.
I don’t get out a lot these days.
Me and my truck are laughing at the people in small cars who are afraid to drive through puddles.
I’m not flooded, as I thankfully live on the top of a hill, but it’s pretty darn close. I don’t know if the sewer erupted or a watermain exploded or something, but there is practically a geyser across the street for two days now. My one adventure out I encountered a whole bunch of closed roads and roped off sections. It was crazy! I’ve never seen it like this around here. It reminds me of the mother’s day floods a little north of here… was that 06? Then there was a pretty big one in 07, but I wasn’t here then, but I remember seeing pictures of rt 1 in Saugus being shut down and under water.
It’s definitely an unpleasant time to go outside. I stayed in most of the weekend, since I get around by public transit or walking. It’s windy enough that an umbrella is pretty useless. No sign of flooding or leaks in my apartment, but I bet there are a few in the basement. Probably no standing water, since the building is on the side of a hill.
I am very glad I just spent the extra $15 to get gore-tex water proof shoes.
Oh goody. I just went down to the basement to try to do some laundry, and discovered three or four inches of standing water. Surprise!
Had a consistent 1" of water across half the basement. On the plus side, we finally figured out where the water leaks in during these sort of heavy spring rains.
Now I get to dig, and patch the foundation, then dig and install a french drain, attaching it to the one around the driveway, 2’ from my foundation. I know what I’ll be doing this summer!
At least there was no power loss for me this storm. Last one I was out for almost 4 days, which was still better than the 6 during the 2008 Ice Storm.
I’m north of Boston but that was one bad storm! I lost cable for a day. I was actually very lucky. We had a lot of tree damage and some towns were under water. I saw a car floating down a street in Newmarket in the paper.
My client today had to pay 500 dollars to have her roof worked on. I feel bad for anyone that gets the water damage. I once had a foot of water in a basement and what a mess! It’s been beautiful and sunny since which is helping to dry things out.
