Hey Chicagoans! What's your favorite. . .

Man. Except for Gigi’s, I frequent everyone of those places. Pete Miller’s rocks.

I’d be all over an Evansdope. I don’t have a kilt, though. Is that mandatory for these things?

I would love an EvDope as well, let me know and Im there

::rereads thread::

:smack:

The Stadium. Life preserver. Got it.

:o

Whoo boy - been to almost EVERY Harvest Fest - maybe THAT’S where I remember the name from! But, my “one day it’s going to be here middle aged memory bank” being what it is, it’s more ‘n’ likely I would’ve remembered you from Stationhouse Pub - I’m a transplant to the north side.

We could do a Penny Road Pub lunch dope too - that isn’t far and I haven’t been there in a while…but bringing up the Thirsty Whale?? Talk about memories…

. . .cue harps and dreamy lens effect.

My most vivd memory of Stationhouse was when one of my idols, Mr. Joe Perry, and his singer at the time, joined us onstage for an impromptu jam.

Those were the days, my friend.

They were, they were. Some good memories, aren’t they?

Was telling Mr2U about this thread, he laughed and said we were puppies - he went to St. Viator with Ted Nugent. See if I pick HIM up beer on my way home…

Abebabe - check your email for a heartfelt apology from me for hijacking…:o

Oops. . .

Sorry, Abebabe. Got a little caught up in yesterdayland there. It was a fun trip down memory lane, though.

Local Band: Nectarine Knockout, Mr. Blotto

Touristy thing to do with out-of-towners: Cubs Game, rock concert
Beach/Park: North Ave.
Sports Team: Bears
Sox or Cubs: Cubs

Sports or other bar: Griffin’s

Missy, don’t worry about the hijack. t’weren’t nothing.

Re the NW area. I believe Miss Creant lives up in this area too.

Mmmmmmm…Giordano’s stuffed pizza … I may have to get one of those babies delivered soon.

I am so homesick now.:frowning:

Anyway, these were good in 1995, the year I moved to CA. So if some of these places are still around, they’re probably still good.

Band: Muck Bros. I know they’re not around anymore. This is circa 1995. Wilco
Fancy Restaurant:Charlie Trotters
Non Fancy Restaurant:Medici in Hyde Park/Melrose on Broadway
Fast Food: Ricobene’s. Best. Breaded. Steak. Sandwich. Ever.
Touristy:Girly= Shopping on Michigan Ave;High tea at The Drake Boys= Cubs followed by The Billy Goat for “cheezbougers” then a pub crawl Family= Lincoln Park Zoo/Field Museum/Museum of Science and Industry/Aquarium
Beach/Park= North Ave.
Sports Team= Pro/ Bulls College/Loyola Womens Rugby ( helped start the first Womens side:cool: )
Cubs
Jazz/Blues= Checkerboard Lounge, Home of the Black Lone Ranger. If you’re willing to risk a waaay dodgy area, no better Blues will be found. The Rolling Stones jammed here. Buddy Guy’s. You never know who will show up. Last time I was there Lou Rawls did a suprise set then Buddy turned up and did a few numbers with him. Pure Bliss.
Bar= ::takes deep breath:: Abbey, Gunther Murphy’s, Red Lion, Tommy Nevin’s, Rainbo Room, Borderline, others too numerous to mention
Street Fair= Taste of Chicago on the night WXRT does fireworks
Pizza= Edwardo’s in Hyde Park

Shout Outs= Walker Bros on Sunday morning. Fab pancakes; Three Happiness for Dim Sum; Powells in Hyde Park for used books; Devon Ave. for anything Indian
Does anybody remember how cool John Barleycorn’s was before the yuppie bastards ruined it ?
I cannot wait to visit in Oct. I miss Chicago.

Elgin-ite checking it. I would be up for a NW 'burbs dope. Penny Road Pub is “just up the street.”

Local Band: Been out of the loop for the last four years, but it used to be The Bad Examples. Poi were up there, too.

Fancy Restaurant: Ambria’s. Or The Pump Room. The food isn’t as great as Ambria’s, but the ambiance and sheer history of the Pump Room (everyone who is someone has been there, at least during its heyday) makes it a wonderful anniversary place.

Non-Fancy Restaurant: Oh my. Used to be the Busy Bee, but that’s closed. The Red Apple on Milwaukee Ave. Or any of the Indian joints on Devon.

Fast Food: Al’s #1 Beef on Taylor Streeet. (Unfortunately, their beef has gotten much smaller these days.) Follow this by going across the street to Mario’s Lemonade for a frozen treat. If you live in Chicago and haven’t been to Mario’s during the summer, well, then you’re not a true Chicagoan yet.

Touristy thing to do with out-of-towners: The Hancock is better, but you gotta do the Sears Tower. Museum of Science and Industry or The Art Institute (depending on who I’m with.) The B’hai Temple in Wilmette is a must-see. The Shedd Aquarium, Wrigley, and Gino’s East off Michigan Avenue.

Beach/Park: Lincoln Park.

Sports Team: The Cubs

Sox or Cubs: South-side Cubs fan here

Jazz/Blues club: The Checkerboard

Sports or other bar: The Map Room, The Village Tap and the Billygoat on Hubbard. (Hey, I’m a news hound and I love hanging out with the Trib guys.)

Street Fair: No idea. Blues Fest probably. They’re all good.

Favorite Place to Contemplate: That jut of land between the Shedd Aquarium and Planetarium. It’s the best view of the Chicago skyline, and during quiet summer nights, a great place to sit, look at the city and stand outside yourself. I miss it…

Abe Babe, a kilt? I’ve never been to a dope thingy, but when in Rome…

Oh man, Granuaile, I have a strong craving for a Walker Bros. apple pancake right now. Served at 10,000 degrees…mmm.

There is a Tedino’s on Sheridan just north of Berwyn. There used to be a Tedino’s in Mount Prospect (I believe) just south of Randhurst Mall, but I think that one closed.

Local Band: Kelly Hogan or Andrew Bird (I think they’re both local, but are transplanted southerners)

Non-Fancy Restaurant : Even though it is somewhat against my religon to recommend things in the barbaric wastelands (you know, the suburbs  ), I have to recommend Gulliver’s on Howard in Skokie (I think). The food isn’t great, but the place itself is AMAZING. Largest privately owned collection of art deco ornamentation in the US…and all on display. The celing is positively encrusted with lightfixtures. Takes one’s breath away.

Fast Food: Al’s #1 beef is great, but for sheer weirdness, I’ll have to recommend getting a genuine Vienna Beef hotdog with all the fixings from the Vienna Beef factory restaurant. (mmmmm. fresh hotdogs).

Beach/Park: Grant park. Touristy and beautiful.

Sports Team: Ms. Absimia is a Cubs fan, so I’ll have to pick the Sox.

Jazz/Blues club: Green Mill is pretty swell, too crowded usually though. Good because of the history.

Other Bar: Danny’s just off of Damen. I really like that place, although I don’t go often because it is somewhat far away from me. It has lots of cubby hole type places to sit and chat. Good place for being private in a public area.

Street Fair: Since it is in my neighborhood, I’ll go with LincolnFest.

Touristy thing to do with out-of-towners: I’m with pulykamell on this one. Hancock would be near the top of the list. Either go to the observation deck and check out the screened in porch like area (you can actually hear the traffic and feel clouds drift past), or save the 10 bucks (or whatever it is now a days) and spend it on a drink at the Signature Room instead. The architectural boat tour is also wonderful.

Absimia, unofficial Chicago booster

I live in Palatine, though I’m temporarily in Schaumburg due to a fire in my building. If there’s a NW burb gathering, I’m there.

And Aurelio’s Pizza is best. Even if it is thin crust.

Though I’m a bit of an ex-E-towner these days, I spent my first 18 years in Evanston…

Fancy Restaurant: Well, I was forced to go to Trio when I graduated from high school…it was pretty good
Non-Fancy Restaurant: Late, lamented New Japan (we knew the owners)
Fast Food: Evanston, Mustard’s all the way; Chi, Al’s!!!
Touristy thing to do with out-of-towners: Shopping @ Watertower, Navy Pier
Beach: I think the only one I ever went to was Lighthouse, but I wouldn’t say I liked it…
Sox or Cubs: Cubs!
Street Fair: Custer’s St. Fair, although my mother liked the street fair thing more than I

I spent much of my youth indoors, alas.

Evanston’s a great place to live. I am very glad I grew up there.

~The Rhythm of Life is a Powerful Beat~

Local Band: does wilco count? OKGO?

Fancy Restaurant: Sushi Wabi in Harpo-land, mmmm

Non-Fancy Restaurant: Moody’s Pub on broadway and Thondale-ish… great burgers or standar India Buffet on Belmont. wierd but i go ther all the time its not great but its a buffet and ints cheap.

Fast Food: Al’s, but i don’t go much, also like the Byron’s on Halstead out in the middle of nowhere, used to work nearby and ate there a lot.

Touristy thing to do with out-of-towners: Cubs, Lakefront, Green Mill, Mag Mile,

Beach/Park: I like biking the lakefront parks (and can be found there about 3 hours a day, almost every day). I live off of foster so i ride from there down to the pier or up to evanston at least 3-4 times a week.

Sports Team: Cubs, and then the B’Hawks

Sox or Cubs: Cubs

Jazz/Blues club: Green Mill

Sports or other bar: Simon’s, Empty Bottle, Hopleaf, Hideout, (and the late, lamented Lounge Axe and O’ Rourkes)

Well, I searched for pizza, in the responses, and didn’t find any. I was in Chi-town last year and almost made it to Gino’s (or Geno’s, according to a cab driver. We had to settle for Uno’s. Did we luck out, or should we have stayed outside of Gino’s (or Geno’s , acccoriding to ou hack???
