Hey, college football fans, who's going to be MNC this year?

Wow, that’s a wild card. Despite the genes, the obvious athletic ability (if you recall when he played WR and just blew past people), and the very positive reports coming out of Blacksburg…in a word, no. Too big a mountain to climb, in a program that is not very friendly to QB stats.

Texas is 2-1 against UTn and 5-3 against Auburn. I am aware of the unfortunate issue of bad timing we have with Vandy, but I see no chance of that being corrected soon. The original statement still applies, and not just to football – also to a certain other sport played on large green fields, but with a white ball and bats instead.

1) Are you more excited about overall records of teams in your conference than in watching the actual games?

Sometimes. I love college football, but if I have something else going on on any given fall Saturday, I won’t lose sleep over missing games. I’m just as content to read about them in the papers the next day.

2) Do you prefer TV coverage over being at the game itself?

I love going to games, but I actually watch the whole game when I watch it on TV. In the past, going to a game has meant being up at 6 a.m., on the University of Michigan golf course by 7, drinking by 7:01, drunk by 10, and hungover by the end of the first quarter. Granted, that was my schedule while in school; I’ve only been to one game since graduating 6 years ago. Being at the game is pretty fricking sweet though; there’s something electric about the band, the crowd, the enormity of the field, etc.

3) Do you have a team that you pull for even when they have no real chance of winning anything significant?

Michigan.

New question:
3a) Do you have a team/teams that you will always root against?

Ohio State, FSU, Florida and Miami.

4) Are you a real student of other teams’ players and coaches, or do you only know details about your own team?

Only my own team, and a few of the other top Big Ten teams.

5) Which conference do you think has the strongest teams, top to bottom?

SEC

6) Will you watch games of other teams in your conference as a preference to other nationally ranked teams?

Yeah, I really only care about the Big Ten.

Do any of you know of a website that provides statistics on NCAA conferences vs. conferences? I’ve seen several sites that give a specific school’s records against all schools they’ve ever played, but have yet to locate one that shows how the SEC (for instance) has fared against other conferences in terms of wins and losses.

  1. Are you more excited about overall records of teams in your conference than in watching the actual games?

I don’t have the time to watch more than one or two games on a weekend so I usually just pay attention my teams.

  1. Do you prefer TV coverage over being at the game itself?

Nothing beats going to the game, except I’m at the age where I’d just as soon watch my northern based teams’ November games from the warmth of either a bar or my living room.

  1. Do you have a team that you pull for even when they have no real chance of winning anything significant?

Of course. The Fighting Irish, followed by my alma mater Kent State and by the local favorite, Ohio State.

New question:
3a) Do you have a team/teams that you will always root against?

Of course. Florida State, Miami, Southern Cal

  1. Are you a real student of other teams’ players and coaches, or do you only know details about your own team?

I don’t have the time to get too much into the other teams, sad to say.

  1. Which conference do you think has the strongest teams, top to bottom?

I have no idea. When you say top to bottom, does that mean comparing weak sisters Vandy to Duke to Northwestern? The SEC has a great reputation, but whether it is deserved or not I don’t have any real idea. I do know ACC will be real interesting this year.

  1. Will you watch games of other teams in your conference as a preference to other nationally ranked teams?

Like I said, I don’t have time to watch that many games. Back when I did though I generally only watched games with other ranked teams later in the season, as opposed to during September and October when the rankings were more fluid.

FLORIDA. I hate the Gators. Miami is a close second. (Interestingly enough, I’ve always liked Bowden and Florida State).
