Hey Eve-J Peterman is back in business!

I noticed you were lamenting the loss of Peterman, and in case you didn’t know, they’re back:

Damn, I like that Garden Party dress.

Hey Eve, I wanted to say thank you. You helped me complete Monday’s crossword puzzle. Theda Bera was a clue and I wouldn’t have known it if not for you.

Where the names in their little stories always so, so * je ne sai quoi*?

I think they’re stupid jokes.

If Castor Swilling and Mia Culp get married and follow classic naming conventions, you end up with Mia Swilling (my ass willing?). And you just know that the fun-loving Audibles are always the quietest ones at the party. The Kay’s first names are indubitably Jay and Ell. You have to feel sorry for Mrs. Thrall, she probably met Nigel in college, was N. Thrall’d, and never got away. I don’t even want to talk about the Bagbalms.

The wide-legged pants are just perfect. And I must have the denim caftan.

Mom’s getting an email at this moment with the link–she was so disappointed when they stopped sending out the catalogues.

Me? I’m just going to sigh over clothes I can’t afford…

Me too-it’s so cute.

I’m hoping they’ll bring back their Titanic line. Even if I couldn’t afford it, maybe they’ll AT LEAST offer a more affordable version of the butterfly comb.

I had never heard of J Peterman until several years ago when I found a catalog on a CTA train. Everything was way out of my budget, but I found the merchandise descriptions sufficiently interesting that I hung on to it. It’s probably still in a box somewhere with other catalogs I’m hanging onto for no particular reason.

Thanks, all . . . But this J. Peterman is just a sad little shadow of what it used to be. I don’t see any of the great 1910s-style wool or linen skirts or 1950s tweed suits that I used to buy there (and I’m too fat to fit into the ones I bought in the late '90s!). The fool overextended himself and is now trying to restart his business, but I don’t see it lasting, not with this teeny-weeny selection . . .

Wow, I’m glad I stumbled on this thread. I’m going to purchase this blouse.

I have to say, however, that this description made me a wee bit uneasy.
