When are you going to India? Why? Where are you going? I’ve been twice meself and am planning on hopefully going back soon to visit my dad and brother there. Been before?
And while I’m at it…anyone else want to share India stories? sigh need to get back there.
The funding gods at the National Science Foundation seem to be smiling at me this week, so I’m off to do some geological recon. Nearby towns include Rewa and Mirzapur (sort of on the line between Delhi and Calcutta). I’m still working on the travel arrangements, but I’ll probably be headed over in mid-February.
This is my first trip, and I’m pretty psyched. If all goes well (i.e., NSF is happy with what I do), I hope to head back again several times over the next few years.
My best friend visited a few years back for some geological/archaeological research, although he spent most of his time near Pune… said it was definitely one of the most interesting trips of his life, and he’d love to go back. He and I may just have to drag each other to our respective field areas.
Your dad and brother live in India? Whereabouts? What did you enjoy most/least while you were there? Any suggestions?
I LOVE those folks! They fund some of the best stuff on PBS! If they are helping to fund you, it must be for something cool! If a documentary is coming out of this trip you have to let me know so I can check it out!
Well, I think the project is cool, but then I’m hopelessly geeky.
This is really just a pilot study for the moment, so no film crews are coming along for the ride… but if you’re interested in a documentary on a neat geological problem that has some bearing on my project, keep your eyes on the Discovery Channel next spring for a program on the “Snowball Earth” hypothesis. (BBC Horizon produced the show, which will air in Britain first.) My thesis advisor is the most vocal critic.
