1- The “phones” on the bridge and shuttledocks are connected to the wall by a landline
2- You know that 30 years has passed because Adama has grown a beard
3- The “chuckle” endings that become the frozen tableau as the credits roll
4- Satan himself was much easier to defeat than those lizard-bots
5- Where exactly was the food coming from for all those people in middle steerage?
I couldn’t care less about one of the jackets or the helmets, but I would give good money for a robot daggit. (Is it true that it was manned by a monkey?)
I’d rather see a continuation, personally. Too bad they didn’t go with Richard Hatch’s version. And WHY doesn’t Hatch have his trailer on his website? Wouldn’t that only help him? I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
Wow, that new series looks incredibly interesting, in the Chinese sense of the word.
Actually, the original Battlestar Galactica was a whole lot better than it really had any right to be. For a show that was more or less conceived as a blatant ripoff, it was carried through with a fair amount of panache and conviction. Erich von Daniken’s goofy space gods never looked cooler. Those opening credits, with the Cylon fighter formation peeling off…whew!
So, evidently this new show is going to take the source material that, against all odds, managed to build a fanbase that even today looks on the show with affection, and change just about everything. A bold and unexpected strategy, no doubt about that. Yeah, clearly the fans of the old show will wake up and think, "Wow! I never thought about it before, but the part of Starbuck was totally miscast! Clearly, breasts are needed to fully honor the spirit of the character! And I now realize that Baltar’s treachery would be much more clearly expressed if he were actually having sex with a Cylon. “Of course, I see it all now! What a fool I’ve been, for the last twenty years! Thank you for correcting these errors, writer/producer Ronald D. Moore!”
Yeah, that’s pretty much how fans will respond, I’m sure.
We have been watching Battlestar all week since it’s on from like 10am to 2pm here on Sci Fi, and I work nights. When it was on originally, I just watched it because I had a HUGE crush on Richard Hatch, now I’m just trying to follow the actual story lines.
I’m still fuzzy on the whole “Where did Cylons come from” aspect. Feel free to shed some light on it for me…
The way those cylon fighters do that tumble dive over the planet reminds me of the way the centauri fighters do that same move in the opening credits of the fifth season of Babylon-5. Was that a deliberate homage to Battlestar Galactica or just coincidence?
Actually, I can think of ONE good thing that will come out of the crappy new version. Someone’s going to write one hell of a great Pit thread about the fiasco!
The only way I will forgive the changes they are making to Battlestar Galactica is if they improve the scientific accuracy to be at least as good as Babylon-5 was. (yeah I know B-5 wasn’t perfect in that regard but they did pretty damn good)
I don’t think the series ever explored their origins in any detail. I recall from the novelization of the first few episodes that the original Cylons were a reptilian species who gradually replaced their organic parts with mechanical substitutes, along the lines of the Cybermen from “Doctor Who.” This process reached its logical culmination in the Cylon warriors, who were completely android with no biological component at all.
I think the pilot episode on TV described this. The reptilian thing sounds familiar to me, and I never read any novels. I also recall maybe Apollo explaining this to the kid (Boxey?).
If they’re made out of velour that would explain another joke on Futurama: Zapp Brannigan’s love for the stuff. “These velour uniforms are pretty snazzy, eh Kiff?”
